Newton vs. Einstein: Who Revolutionized Science More?

In this discussion, Brian Greene compares the scientific legacies of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, ultimately arguing that Newton made a more groundbreaking impact due to his revolutionary contributions to modern scientific understanding, despite Einstein's significant achievements.

Plus newton was like, man this basic ass math isn’t telling me shit, I need to create a new more complex way of calculating this shit

the introduction of calculus is probably on of the greatest achievement. without that no theory of relativity.

Agree, Newton basically invented calculus because he was bored being locked down due to the plague.

Just as an example: he invented calculus because he needed it to solve other issues.

Newton WAS the giant. Einstein was amazing, but i agree with Brian Greene, Newton may possibly be the most intelligent person who ever lived.

Saying Newton had no shoulders of giants to stand on, is deeply ignorant.
We still learn stuff people have said 2000 years earlier than Newton and they had shoulders of giants to stand on

Wow, the fact that she's so surprised about that shows that she's really out of her element here.

Every Physics student would easily put Newton over Einstein. Newton almost single-handedly discovered and calculated most of the theories we use for classical mechanics today. With a little help from Leibniz for Calculus. In fact, he invented Calculus just to help him calculate his physics theories. His laws of motion and universal gravitation influenced discoveries from Electromagnetism (Coulomb's law is literally the law of Universal Gravitation but with charged particles) all the way up to Einsteins theory of special relativity.

Oh yes, Newton didnt have a scientific tower to jump off from. However, Al-khwarazmi, Brahmagupta, Sreedharacharya, Euclid, Hypatia ensured that when he indeed built the tower and jumped off, there is enough sand to minimize the thrust/impact so that he is not hurt.

No it was Descartes who described the mathematization of natural sciences in “Discourse on the Method”. Newton basically used his idea in practice.

I'm pretty sure Einstein could have done what Newton did had he been around at the same time. I don't think many could match Einstein in his contributions towards quantum theory.

Einstein is great and all but Newton was on another level. He calculated the gravitational pull of the Earth and moon with pieces of goddamn wood and string. And he did experiments with prisms and light.

I have to stick up for J.C. Maxwell here. The under appreciated and greatest physicist of all time. Without his work, many others couldn’t have done theirs; including Einstein.

There were many great mathematicians that Newton was able to get to greater insight on the shoulders of them. Al-Khwarizmi, for example, is one among many more. .

Dude invented Calculus. Invented. Calculus. Let that sink in

cap, if you know the history of calculus and integration, you know Newton only developed them and was the first to use them in physics, but it wasn’t something new from scratch as many people claim.
Why Einstein is better? simply because Newton’s work is limited, unlike modern physics. Einstein’s work is pure genius. We were lucky to have Newton and luckier to have Einstein.

Most people don’t even know what Einstein did.

In a world where nobody knew about the existence of the laws of motion or gravitational forces, I can't imagine the shock and despair people must have felt when a social recluse comes along explaining how everything can be decided with a bunch of numbers. That your whole existence is just maths. Would have been reality shattering.

Gravity was existing in India before newton was even born ! But yes the western world didnt have that
