I think this is something the Jays had to do if they are serious about winning a championship! Jays have loads of talent but are way to righty heavy and outfield defence was a problem! They have solved both of those problems and managed to keep Ricky! You gotta give up something to get what you need!

This is the type of player that Toronto fans love, hard-nosed, spark plug type and the D is amazing, Sad to lose Moreno but we get to keep Ricky T. I love this trade.

I am sad that we won't get to see Moreno as continues to develop but Varsho is a great ballplayer and was the fan favourite for D Backs. Time will tell! My first thought was that he would be the Matt Chapman of the outfield as mentioned in another comment.

Lourdes is one of my favorite Blue Jays. From the first time I saw him I saw a guy that had excellent hands at the plate. He can Hit. His defense is bad. Mereno is a gifted athlete and an amazing young talent. He is going to be a great ballplayer. Good hitter and strong arm . Lots of great potential. The Jay's gave up alot here. I hope the new guy will slot into the lineup and help the team get to the Wold Series. I don't know who he is but he sounds like an awesome addition.

Baseball Trade Values likes this one for the Jays. Varsho is a proven commodity still under team control for four more years, while Gurriel is a FA after this year and Moreno is still a relatively unproven prospect. I like the trade for TO.

Great pickup for the Jays - Varsho is legit. I was low-key hoping the Padres would make a play for him, but it would be dumb of the D-backs to move hi m to a division rival... Nice work, Toronto. Good luck.

I like the trade. I just wished they had done it a month ago. Then they could have scooped up another lefty FA. However, they are 10 deep with Espinal, which is really good and another OF addition like McCutchen would round out their offense nicely. Hopefully they find a way to add to the pitching. Bauer? Kluber? Cueto? Chapman? Chafin? Moore?

I didn’t like adding Moreno in the trade but guess what, Varsho also plays catcher. I was ok with Gurriel leaving as he was in his last year and the Jays weren’t going to re-sign him. I think it will be a few years before you can look at the stats of both and say who won the trade but maybe both teams got what they needed. We still need a forth outfielder given KK and Springers injury woes. Biggio and Merrifield can fill in but not for any extended period of time. I think the Jays aren’t done yet.

At some level here Toronto brass had to also be thinking to upgrade the "professionalism" of this team.. the players who have been traded vs those brought in seems to indicate this and i agree with that approach, it's time to man up boys! take the next step

Daulton Varsho is the Matt Chapman of the outfield! I like it a lot.

Considering how Varsho pulls the ball to right field its easy to also see why the Yankees wanted him, he would do very well with their RF dimensions. Glad the Jays grabbed him, he might be a Yankee killer now.

I continue to see this as a win-win trade that made sense for both teams. All one needs to do is list out the contracts, handedness, positions, offensive stats, and defensive stats of the players involved, then factor in the needs/redundancies of each team, and it makes total sense. I'm going to really miss Gurriel, but I'm also going to really enjoy Varsho/Kiermaier/Springer patrolling the OF like three Pillars. 😊
