Triumph - Lay It On The Line - ft Gabriela Gunčíková - Joel Hoekstra - Rudy Sarzo - Ken Mary

“Lay It On The Line” was written by Triumph founder Rik Emmett two years before it was released on their album Just A Game. The song was originally an acoustic tune before the band decided to arrange it as a rock number.

What other well known rock songs do you know of that started off as acoustic tunes before being redone? Let me know in the comments!

Citing fellow Canadian band Rush as a major influence, Triumph was part of the harder-edged progressive power-rock movement of the late '70s.

Following their breakout hit, “Hold On”, “Lay It On The Line” went on to become one of the band’s most popular songs.

In this exciting version of the tune, Gabriela is collaborating with a powerhouse of musicians that you’re sure to recognize. We hope you enjoy it!

Gabriela should record an album with these guys. She's absolutely perfect on vocals.

Tremendous cover. It's also must be said how remarkable Rik Emmett is to have done this in the first place!!!! He is truly one of the most overlooked singers/guitarists of the past 40 years.

Hoekstra trips me out- he can be ripping the most savage solo, and from his facial expression he could be making his grocery list... must be a Zen thing... : )

Oh man, where do I start. This is one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded and Triumph gets zero love. I mention Rik, Mike & Gil and Triumph when responding to various music posts all the time, it is a shame they get overlooked the way they do. You could do a bunch of videos on them.
This is Gabriellas best vocal performance to date …. she is amazing.
And then we come to an outstanding collection of musicians…. truly a fantastic video 🤘🏼

First off, I want to mention that Triumph the band themselves shared the link to this video, and that is how I found it. And I'm sure glad for that! This tune has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it on their live album back in 1985 (which I still consider to be one of the best rock performances ever). What an absolutely brilliant version this is! Everyone absolutely nailed their parts. Gabriella is pure magic whenever she sings, and this was no exception. Loved it!

I'm sure if Rick Emmett saw this he's have the biggest smile, this is a really hard song to sing, most can't reach that high, thanks Ken.

This lady is absolutely off the charts, I would also like to thank TRIUMPH for all the years of excellent RockN Roll! Totally underrated like so many great CANADIAN groups!

Gabriela is amazing. She has her own style and voice, but her talent, power, and delivery is up there with so many of the greats: Ann Wilson, Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt...
