Don't need gear? Depends where/when you are running or if you are running actual events with mandatory gear lists then you can potentially add a vest/pack, safety vest, compass, space blanket, GPS and map, PLB, water, food, headlamp w/ batteries, spare head lamp, gloves, buff or beanie, phone w/ offline maps, trekking poles, waterproof jacket and pants, fleece and thermals, zip lock bags and a dry bag add to that your extras like body glide, first aid kit, sunglasses, hat, insect repellent, arm and leg sleeves, spare sock... So it can be quite expensive meeting a mandatory gear list (and basic safety essentials) when starting out.

I love trail running, actually I'm a reverse sprinter which looks like walking but it's really technically a slow motion sprinting. This technique is really Zen and advanced for beginners.

I totally want to start train running. Maybe one day, I too can run the rails like a train.

I find watching your footing is critical. Take shorter steps...dont worry about the pace especially if you are running the trail for the first time.

Most trail runners are respectful to hikers on hiking trails, but as hiking trails have gotten more crowded and trail running has gained popularity, I've had more unpleasant brushes with rude trail runners who are more concerned about maintaining their pace than about the safety of others - e.g. they will not slow down while passing others on narrow trails, steep trails. Super rude & dangerous. Last summer my friend was actually knocked off balance on narrow trail by a trail runner who didn't even slow down until I blocked him. He snapped at me, and I told him to look behind him to see that he had just knocked over my friend. Seriously, he was running fast with his headphones on on a super popular trail on a busy weekend. The trail had a lot of loose rock and there was a sheer drop of one edge. My friend was lucky not to have been hurt. If you trail run, please remember to respect other users and lay off the popular hiking trails on busy weekends.
