Calculate the ratio of two numbers in Excel using a formula.
A ratio is a common way to compare amounts. You see them daily. For example, in a recipe. It may say to use 5 parts water to 1 part paste and represent it as the ratio 5:1.
In this video tutorial the example if to calculate the ratio of girls to boys in a school class.
To do this we need to divide each value of its greatest common denominator, and then join them with the colon separator.
The GCD function of Excel is used to calculate the greatest common denominator. The full formula is shown below.
=A2/GCD(A2,B2)&":"&B2/GCD(A2,B2)
