How Dogs Love Us

Do our dogs love us? It's a question all dog owners say they know the answer to, but Emory University neuroscientist Gregory Berns is trying to prove it by training dogs to get in an MRI and scanning their brains. His findings are coming out in his new book How Dogs Love Us.

YES! I am so very glad he is doing this work. I have known for decades that dogs, and many other animals, have emotions. Thank you. I look forward to the day when dogs are not longer objects to be owned or discarded at the human's whim.

How great that science is proving what the heart has told us since the first dog wandered into a human encampment, that these noble creatures deserve our love, care and respect, for they mirror our better selves. Louis Spirito, author GIMME SHELTER

I love dogs very very much. There is a video in my channel showing a dog waiting in rain for 3 hours till her owner comes back !

that's the point I was making - if a dog is TRULY BONDED no way they will eat their master they will starve first they can manage to jump on cabinets, get into fridges, and in the end will sleep with their head on a rotting corpse. I was very very ill about 10 years ago and passed out my 2 dogs did EVERYTHING imaginable to wake me licking, pulling, even ripping my clothes off& dragging water to me night turned to day turned to night and 72 hours later I came to and their heads were on my belly

A recent comprehensive study from Chum Bucket University showed that rain is comprised primarily of water. Though many still remain skeptical with this findings.

Very good! Dream on the day that the animals are not treated as objects. These are acts that make this dream every day closest.

You don't need a scientist to tell you that a dog has affection for you. Any good dog owner knows this.

I think it starts with one animal to pave the way for ALL animals. I believe all animals are capable of all of the same emotions and feelings that humans have. It doesn't matter if those emotions and feelings are relayed to us humans or not. As someone who has both dogs and cats, I'm very happy they are doing this research. Finally we will be able to actually, physically prove what many of us who live with and love animals know. Things will change. We're heading in the right direction.

Thank you for this precious comment. That is absolutely remarkable of your dogs to bring you water. They must be extremely intelligent to do such cognitive processing. There are highly intelligent dogs out there. People just don't realize this. I am deeply touched by your story. Would you tell me more about this? You should write a book about it. People need to hear those stories. This is the information that needs to go public. I always say Dogs are Gods. They do everything for us humans.

Not sure they really needed an MRI study to determine that dogs feel love and deep attachment toward humans and other animals with whom they are bonded. That's pretty obvious just by looking at their expressions and body language, or observing their protectiveness. They wear their hearts on their sleeves.

you really don't need a research to know..
they love us with a love...TRUE LOVE

What is the relationship between dogs being similar to us in some feelings and giving them human rights?

I have also seen stories of dogs lying with their dead owners for WEEKS and foraging off what they managed to get out of the fridge and cabinets including whole eggs, ripping up a jug of milk and lapping it up getting uncooked rice, cereal, flour and packaged dinners out cabinets and never touching their dead owner - one dog was found sleeping with an 18 month old baby in the kitchen floor and they BELIEVE the dog ripped open peanut butter for the child to eat maybe it depends on SHARED love?

This is the kind of ground breaking research that allows for equality, and scientific Prove-able evidence, that can ultimate make people who do not understand, be quite & finally start paying attention. There's a huge bias within Human Society that we are by far Superior. And in certain aspects we are. But that doesn't mean that other animals aren't potentially capable of similar thoughts & understanding, we just had a different evolution type. I can't say too much more, until I publish my work

your cat could be trained to do just that using the same methods (clicker training) used with the dogs in this study. it would probably much more time to do so cause (most) cats have no inborn (genetic) desire to work with their chosen humans and to figure out what the humans wants them to do next, but they respond to operant conditioning - and nothing else is what clicker training makes use of - as any animal does. even a chicken or a pigeon would learn that behaviour.
