Having had a total knee replacement at age 59, this was essential. The only problem with that was any kind of movement during the night. I’d always take at least one Percocet before bedtime to help me fall asleep comfortably. When I weaned off my narcotics, the last stage of weaning off was narcotics before bedtime because of the pain issue moving around.

The problem is and everyone has posted about it is you can’t sleep with a straight leg, cause it’s too painful

Thank you for all your posts. I have a question I haven't seen on here yet. My husband has been through a lot with rheumatoid arthritis. He is bone on bone with both knees. He is on 2 different infusions, Remecade and an IGG infusion. A total of 16 a year. He is also on max of most meds including pain. Next would be Morphine which he won't even talk about at this time. He is worried about more pain with knee surgery and his current meds won't be enough. He hates all this medicine but RA Dr said he would be dead if not taking it. He is 70 years old too. What is usually done for someone already at this point with pain meds?

Does this work for ACL surgery and meniscus?

When you say the leg needs to be straight, do you mean the knee should not be bent? Or do you mean it can be bent but it needs to be in a straight line?

I am confused we used to always do this post op in ortho. Way back when cpm machines were used so I thought taking my son home oh I got this…I did this for 15 years.
But everything seems different. the dc instructions were to not elevate and to only use a small prop under the ankle. He is miserable and in tears. Feels like the back of knee has exploded and his knee is so heavy and weighed down from the padding, brace, ice pack and tens oh the nerve block too

he had a tendon removed from quad tendon to replace his complete rupture/missing Acl. His meniscus on one side had ruptured through the opening where the acl was supposed to be and was not a “c” shape. It was an “o”. He also had a tear to the other side it also was torn. So the dr went in pushed the blown off menisci back and sutured. Sutured the big tear with several sutures (5). Would this be why it’s a more complex surgery? It’s only been 7 years since I left to go to ed?
