How to Convert a Generator to Propane

Running a generator on Gasoline is fine, but refilling a hot generator with gas is messy and dangerous, plus you have to deal with storing gas. I find that having an emergency generator that runs on propane is much easier and safer.

I sought the company out after doing research and bought my conversion kit. I don't have any ties to the propane conversion kit company, although later they did give me a broken regulator to play with.

Dave, converting your generator to propane is one of the greatest things man can do.

You fit every stereotype for the guy that runs the best small engine shop in town. Your demeanor is comfortable and you give out a ton of details. Great video. Thanks for the knowledge.

Have a 78 Ford F-150 4x4 that was set up dual fuel, propane or gasoline. Had the motor rebuild many years ago & told the mechanic to get rid of the propane set up, regretted it ever since. Propane runs cleaner & will store indefinitely. This is an excellent idea as it gives you dual fuel flexibility. Honestly in an emergency I doubt you will be able to get either gasoline or propane but the beauty is propane does not go bad in storage like gasoline does! Store up your propane & your good to go & if you do have access to gasoline all the better! Excellent video, Thanks!

When you put the gasket on, . you put it on backwards (upside down). PLEASE anyone watching this, I hope you read the comments. The gasket has 5 holes which are to line up with the piece added which feeds propane into the generator. The setup as shown about 5 minutes in will leak. There are open holes to the outside. This can leak propane and cause major risks.

David. I watched all 3 of your generator conversion videos. Very well done. They were informative and educational. Thank you.

This is an awesome video and I wish I saw it sooner. I was thinking of trying to find an alternative fuel like a diesel generator or electric that runs like a tesla. This makes sense though.

As a certified LP Service Technician. I would advise you to use an approved gas tread tape or gas approved theard dope

Help me understand something. I understand the function of the propane regulator as far as it "smooths" the output of the pressure changes from the propane tank. What I don't understand about generator regulators "Is there ANY flow to the carb/engine from the regulator at "Stop"? Does the regulator only flow when engine "intake pressure" pulls on intake stroke? The video never shows him turning the propane valve on so unless the above is true wouldn't it just openly "flow" filling the carb throat, engine compartment, and post air filter with propane? Ive asked this same question on a couple "conversion" videos.

Just started watching this. If it takes less than 10 mins to cover it I'll be surprised. Subbed BTW

I hope you adjusted the orientation of that gasket as it looked to be incorrectly oriented as it was @ 5:04.

thanks for the in depth video ! a while ago i saw one guy that shoved a Copper line he attached to a Propane tank ? and despite being from the South my thought was how frigginRedneck can you get ? plus i spent a decent dollar on a Honda Generator / Inverter to use for My Camper and i went that route because i like Honda Products and don’t mind spending a little extra on Investing in good equipment that should last i will be moving back South soon and like having to be able to keep the Gasoline as a option in the event of NaturalDisasters etc plus the Ethanol and whatever stabilizers i’ve tried just doesn’t last in high humid areas i’ve owned 17 or 18 boats over my lifetime with numerous power plants and Fuels and i’m not very happy with the Ethanoyl Fuel it corrodes metals and Carburetor internals on my last VesselI ran Holley Performance Carbs and i couldn’t get more than a season out of the OEM accelerator Pumps ? i appreciate the Website info also and the feedback on their Customer Service

Good video. I've never seen hose clamps used with propane before. It's always crimped fittings on both low and high pressure sides, from what I've always been told. Did he say anything about that? Keep up the great work.

I have one on a eu2000k it's awesome. Runs both gas and propane.

The fittings on the fuel hose do not fit the regular pipe fittings. Fittings for fuel use have a 50 degree slope on the flare, regular fittings have a 37 degree slope on the flare. Had people tell me the fitting was metric until a parts man at Central Hydraulics noticed the difference and ordered the correct fitting. The one hose I ordered was not correct at the connection to the propane tank. This connection had threads on the outside of the fitting instead of the inside backwards fitting propane tanks use.

Great video and is explaination of what does what. Are these specific to machines or will they fit most generators. I have a 3500 I’d like to convert.
