Nissan Frontier vs Toyota Tacoma - This is the one I'd buy and why
Показать описание
We’re going to compare the Pro-4X trim for the 2022 Nissan Frontier and and the TRD Off-Road for the 2021 Toyota Tacoma.
$35,510 - 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road
$37,240 - 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X
The Toyota comes with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that puts out 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.
The Nissan is offered with a 3.8-liter V-6 with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque.
That gives the 2022 Nissan Frontier a 32-hp advantage over the Tacoma and 16 lb-ft more torque.
I’d say when it comes to these types of vehicles, torque matters a little more than just hp and considering there’s only a slight difference between the two in torque, you can expect them to perform similarly off-road.
One feature that matters a lot to buyers of off-road trucks is the transmission. The Toyota TRD Off-Road is backed by a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, whereas the Nissan only comes with a nine-speed automatic in the Pro-4X trim.
If this is good or bad is up to you. Some prefer a manual transmission for off-roading, while others don’t.
Personally, I think it’s highly unlikely that the 9-speed auto in the Nissan Frontier will have any issues off-road. It’s something they must have tested a lot before approving it for production. But you never know for sure until it’s been in the hands of users for a while.
Now this is pretty interesting - The Tacoma TRD Off-Road is equipped with vented front disc brakes however in the rear you get drum brakes, which feels a little outdated although I’m sure they perform just as they should.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X has vented disc brakes in all four corners.
The dimensions between the two trucks are pretty similar with the Frontier being slightly smaller with a wheelbase of 126 inches compared to the Toyota at 127.4
The 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road is two inches longer and about two inches wider than the Frontier at 212.3 inches in length and 75.2 inches in width.
However the Frontier sits 2 inches higher than the Tacoma at 72.4 inches compared to 70.6.
