The USA is one of the most volcanically active countries on Earth. While, some volcanoes keep Americans on edge as they become aware of potential dangers, other volcanoes lie dormant, patiently waiting for their time to blow up. A recent National Volcanic Threat Assessment by the U.S. Geological Survey cataloged 161 volcanoes throughout the country, 18 of which are considered a "very high threat." In today’s video, we will explore some of America’s most dangerous volcanoes that could erupt at any moment.

0:00 Intro
0:45 Kīlauea, Hawaii
2:01 Mount St. Helens, Washington
3:17 Long Valley Caldera, California
4:44 Mount Rainier, Washington
5:45 Redoubt Volcano, Alaska
7:01 Yellowstone Supervolcano, Wyoming
8:16 Mauna Loa, Hawaii

Mount saint Helen’s major eruption was may 18, 1980, not March 27th. Mount rainiers threat is to the puyallup river not the Columbia river.

Surprised they did not mention the Three Sisters complex since that has been showing steady uplift for a couple of years now.

The footage used to illustrate the houses destroyed (including mine) in the 2018 Kilauea eruption was not of the East Rift Zone on the island of Hawaii but that of the lava flowing over houses during the 2021 La Palma, Canary Islands eruption.

Yellowstone blew 631, 000 years ago according to Mike Poland, the Scientist-in-Charge at Yellowstone. And Yellowstone has blown up WAY more than just three times! It's been erupting for at least 55 million years. The hotspot built the exotic terrane Siletzia, which attached itself to Washington and Oregon.

Shamefully inaccurate. Mt St Helens did have a steam eruption on March 27, 1980...but the large 5.1 earthquake and landslide did not happen until May 18, 1980 at 0832 hours.
If you can't even get basic historical facts right, why would anyone want to this channel for volcanic information?

When I was in junior college, my geology professor told our class about Mt. Rainier. He told us that Mt. Rainier is well overdue for an eruption. If Mt. Rainier erupted, it will be a catastrophic mess. He is a member of a group that will be watching Mt. Rainier if it shows signs that it will erupt.

My son and I love volcanoes and to learn about them, my son came to me and told me stomach problems are a problem in his school, he also added that even mountains can get stomach problems, trust me I was blown away with this remark but as he continued he told me anak krakatau had one big stomach ache and took out three islands with one fart, he also added that nature and humanity are one alike, I ask him how? He replied mankind loves to get facelifts, I asked what his point is, he replied mount saint hellen got a facelift too, so yeah he's learning fast

What about Mt. Baker, north of Mt. Rainer? It has an active steam vent and a heluva lot of snow and ice that would flow up in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Then there is Mt. Seymour north of Vancouver, BC.

Mount St. Helens has always been far more active and more violent than Mount Rainier. That's why Mount Rainier is so much bigger: It rarely had the chance to blow itself apart like Mount St. Helens did. But I have no doubt that every volcano in the world shall soon erupt, quite violently.

March 27 1964, 5:30 pm, Fairbanks, Alaska, my log house began ssshhhaaakkkiiinnnggg (shaking). The Earth Quake was over 400 miles away near Valdez, AK out in the inlet. It measured 9.2 there and over 7.0 at the University in Fairbanks. Today, Valdez is about 1 or 2 miles from where it used to be. That was 60 yrs ago, and it's still a BIG DEAL to my wife and I.

Crater Lake Volcano in Southern Oregon.. last time it blew was 7700 years ago. It was so catastrophe it blew over 4000 feet of elevation from its peak.
Leaving behind tha massive crater down inside the volcano that filled with water. A lake that is over 2000 feet deep.
This volcano is still active and very alive. The iskand inside the ok ake is called Wizard Island....it has formed since that massive eruption. That island is the new cone rising up from below.
What oeople fail to understand is that this new cone....this island..it is a result of volcanic activity that has allowed it to rise from over 2000 feet since that huge eruption over 7700 years ago.
Not only did the blast extend hundreds of miles, throwing debris and hot ash .. but the blast was so large that according to Native American lore passed down the blast could be seen as far away as the Great Lakes and was heard on the east coast. Many different tribes of the northern America continent of those regions have oral history of this event..all dating to the same time period.
Talk about a volcani that can go boom...
Imagine that for whatever reason..a earthquake or whatever happened to cause all that water to suddenly drop below to the magma chamber below... Instantly, all that wayer in that lake..a lake over 2000 feet deep.. all flashes off to steam instantly... Causing a massive sudden exoansion of what is now super heated steam under pressure... It blows out like a cork... Like it did those thousands of years ago... Except this time much much more massive and many times greater in force.
Although it is less likely to have this occur like this..die to the magma chamber is not quite what it use to be under all that water...now there is snother 250 more feet of sediment between the initial floor of the caldera and now at the bottom of the lake.
An earthquake probably of 7.0 or greater would probably needed to take place at or around the volcano to make such an event happen...and that would be if the sides of the volcano do not collapse allowing the lake to empty...and flood nearby lower areas.
If any portion of the caldera was to alliw water to start dropping into the chamber far below, but not the entire lake.. we are still talking explosions that could send steam and debris hundred of feet into the air ... And that is because it would need to push past all that water... It would be an explosion uner water ..it would definitely beeak the surface... But all that weight of water would suprees the magnitude of the explosion.

You got the date wrong of the Mt. St. Helens major eruption wasn't on March 27 1980 but in May 18, 1980. March 27, Mt. St. Helens woke up with a stream eruption

Yellowstone has been stirring for more than a decade.
More often than not, volcanic activity is not a sign of an imminent eruption but some vulcanologists say that Yellowstone is due for an eruption.
Super volcanic eruptions cause absolute devastation for thousands of square miles.
A shift of poles in 2040 may well be the trigger for numerous eruptions worldwide.

Interesting, I live not far from Mt. Rainier although I'm in the "evacuation to" area and not at risk of a lahar here but I go hiking down in Orting often which is in the direct path of any lahar that might happen should Rainier pop. There is a audible warning system in Orting so if something were going to happen you would hear about it, I only know this because they test that system at 12:00PM on Tuesdays and I hear it when hiking in that area, a little annoying but I get why it's there.
