Dead iMac to External Monitor Modification Plans

I'm parting out this liquid damaged 2011 iMac, but am planning on keeping the chassis and panel to make a kick-ass 1080p monitor. Let me know what you think of the idea down below!

That is just sensational mate! I would 100% do it, iMac's are the most gorgeous looking things and if you got that working with the 1080p and the iSight it would be amazing. What a companion to the G5 case it would make a super interesting and incredible setup. The 21:9 looks really, really good, but c'mon its an iMac man ;)

Ok you posted 6 years ago, a lot of comments and I noticed you replied to a few. I also came across a 2011 27" iMac i7 with16gigs Ram, snapped it up know the video card was flaky for cheap, and sure enough 1 month later video crapped out. The video boards are the biggest problem along with Hard drive ( I installed a SSD, sweet fast) I evaluated like you did but the OS is Stuck at High Sierra, so I gutted it, now am writing up what I did to make it a sweet 27" IPS Display for my M1 Mac Mini, and Raspberry, DVD player and my Win PC. What happened? Everybody wants to know, , , , I will be posting my success and parts costs etc in next few months as I finish up the build.

The color on the imac's display is way beter than the Colors on the 21:9

You should do it. Hopefully you can find a controller board that uses displayport and a displayport to mini displayport adapter.

If I see it right it's a 21" iMac or isn't it because that makes the big difference in my opinion. I loved my 27" display and it still is one of the best desktop displays in my opinion but the 21" isn't that nice ... At least I don't really like it ... But I would rather make a display out of the iMac. It's cool even the fact it's not a computer anymore and you could easily get a lot of money out of it even though you decide to keep using your 21:9 monitor :)

what about connecting a ps4/ tv box to the imac display and then you will have an imac tv!

I realy think that you should take the iMac as a monitor because it is absolutely gorgeous, and your aoc monitor has quite bad colours and generally it is considered a quiet cheap 21:9 Monitor. The iMac has a gorgeous Display, beautiful colours, it just has such an awesome Panel. Also the design is absolutely gorgeous of the iMac. You should really do it, you are gonna love it. And how did someone liquid damage an iMac? Cheers Melvin
