Thank you for this informative video! ❤
I'd like to add to the fur issue - yes, they might get stressed if their fur becomes knotted, but remember: cats lick themselves regularly, and when that involves so much fur, it might lead to a bowel obstruction. My maine coon had to undergo two abdominal surgeries, even though we brush her regularly.

I got my Main Coon at a shelter. I had him for 20 years. He was a smart cat who wanted to take a walk with me every evening. He patiently waited for me at the door until I was ready to walk with him. He definitely understood english. We would walk together and he would hapily trot ahead of me holding his tail in the air. He was an indor/outdor cat and lived a hapy life with me and my family.

I had 2 Maine Coons, both rescues. They lived to be 17. One died of cancer, the other a stroke. They were the joy of my life. Desi was by my side almost every minute of every day. The most loyal and loving cat I've ever had.

Maine coons don't just attach to one person. I've owned several and while they do tend to have a favorite, they actually do a very good job of spreading their attention and love to the entire family.

We managed to get a MC male from the SPCA. He had been returned twice and was very shy, shy enough that the ladies at the shelter thought he would not be rehomed. I sat with him and put my hand inside the cage and eventually he came out from hiding and sniffed at my hand. He has been with us for several years now and exhibits pretty much all these traits and follows my wife around, coming to get her if he wants company. He is by far the sweetest and smartest cat we have ever had and is a joy to have around. We are retired so there is always someone around if he gets lonesome. We have a backyard and he will hunt there for hours. Oddly he never leaves the yard and comes when called. He will also indicate what kind of food he wants by his posture and has the sweetest trills to come from an animal. We absolutely adore him and he is such a gentleman. Also he will come and get us to groom him or if he wants attention he will flop on the diningroom floor and wait for one of us. Charming to say the least.

I've had 2 in my lifetime. Just lost my beloved Gidget 2 weeks ago at the age of 18. Both rescues...both, hands down, the smartest cats I've ever owned.

I totally disagree with this video, my Maine Coon ( Alfie ) was the most loving, fun, intelligent, loyal, soothing, beautiful creature I’ve ever had the pleasure to call a member of my family. NEVER a problem but a ray of sunshine I couldn’t wait to get home to every day. Yes he was expensive to keep but worth every penny . Miss him so much ❤️❤️

The Maine Coon mix I got from a shelter a few months ago is the joy of my life. He learns a lot of words quickly. Has not bit or scratched me on purpose. Cautious to experience new things but with time gradually accepts change. Enjoys being around other people who have quiet, gentile personalities. He's quite verbal. Is chill 70% of the time and plays like a cat on fire the rest of the time. Strings and balls cannot be beat by any mechanical toy. Cat TV rocks. This little gentleman respects property and doesn't damage any of it. The happier he is the more he bathes. Shedding? HUGE. Most of it is in clumps which is easy to spot and pick up. With hairball food it's not been a problem for him. He has long, heavy outer coat and a downy undercoat which does most of the shedding mostly while playing. There are many products which help a lot to control and clean shedding.

My Maine Coon was the gentlest, most loving cat I have ever had. He was a polydactyl and his paws were like catchers mitts. I got him as a kitten and had him for almost 14 years. Bell, I miss you buddy.

I have been owned by two MCCs. As I got them from the Humane Society I figure they were half-breeds, but they had all the traits. Everything in this video is spot-on, but they were worth it. They were the most intelligent and loving cats. I miss them both very much.

I have 6 Maine Coons. They all get along brilliantly. I have an enclosed patio so that my cats can stalk the birds in my back garden but not get to them, which exercises their prey drive without causing the death of any wildlife. I also have 2 rabbits, and they all get along as well.

Back in 2001 an large older male cat wandered up to me on our farm! He was skinny and needed to eat so I gave him a bowl of food and some fresh water. He had an obvious puss filed wound on his forehead. We cleaned it and put some antibiotic paste on it that we have on hand for cattle and goats. This seemed to start healing it. However it became bad again so we took him to our farm vet who cleaned it and packed it with something that really worked well. We had started letting him in and he liked to be inside. He was a great cat and it was amazing how he used his apposing thumb. He was with us for about ten years but one day he didn’t come home. Since was getting a little feeble we think he died somewhere. We still miss him.

I got my kitten at a shelter not knowing any better, I just thought it was another cat. Everyone freaked out and got so excited saying things like "OMG a Maine coon!!!" and "how much did you spend on him???" I had zero idea there was anything special about him other than him being my first self owned cat. I love him and am going to miss him being a kitten when he gets giant!

My lady was a rescue Maine Coone. My first pet ever. She was a awesome, pretty, cat that thought she was a human or maybe a puppy, very vocal, moody and loyal. She lived to be 17. Only problem was her was everywhere. But she was beautiful!

I have a mini Maine Coon; he was the runt of his litter, and so didn't grow very big.
He looks like a yearling and has a great personality.

I had a big sweet and friendly American shorthair red tabby cat. His attitude was liked a Maine Coon. He was my best friend for a little bit over 12 years. I was 11 years old when I met him when he was a stray cat. At first he was afraid of me. It took me a few minutes of talking to him. He started to cuddled with me. My sister and even my parents liked him, too. We adopted him in our home. That cat that I had a very special bond with him. I was so lucky to have that cat in my life. He was my best friend.
