This brings to mind my estranged daughter, and the night she was born. When I held her for the first time after we nearly lost her (and her mother) in a difficult birth. I swore then that I would never abandon her, or let harm come to her.

Her mother and I split. For a time it was OK. I still saw her daily. Then they moved an hour away. Then across the country. I wish I could afford to follow, but I can't.
