DISM Scan Stuck at 62.3%. Fails With Message “The Source Files Could Not Be Found.” In Windows FIX

The DISM command “DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / Restore Health” can be performed successfully in normal cases to repair your Windows System Image. However, some users said their DISM failed and they receive the DISM source files could not be found error message. What’s the problem with that? How to fix the issue yourself?

If the DISM Tool fails, , you have 2 options – clean up the system components, and specify an alternative Windows image repair source, which will then be used to repair a corrupted Windows image. You can do this using the Group Policy.

Normally, during the repair operation, the automatic corruption repair provides files. But of this itself has got corrupted, you can use a specified repair source on your network or use Windows Update to retrieve the source files that are required to enable a feature or to repair a Windows image.

I waited little over 20 minutes, was about to give up then i kept going. It stopped at 84.9 for a bit then kept going. Took what felt an hour to do completely

In my case, I had to do a CHKDSK first, then, a SFC /Scannow and then, trying now a DISM command.

Without CHKDSK, SFC would stop at 73%, and DISM as well, at 53.8%

So I had a BSOD and both my SFC and DISM showed corruption. The BSOD occured when I plugged in my iphone and was trying to open the device as a drive in windows to view files, but i hadn't pressed "trust this computer" on the iphone, so I guess some sort of conflict occured and BSOD. After reboot and plugging in phone again and allowing the windows computer on the iphone, all good.

TBH I don't know if the corruption was because of the installer I created with RUFUS and checking certain bypasses to make installation easier (no windows 11 internet access required on setup, no bitlocker enabled automatically), because I had had no crashes to that point and the install was about 2 hours old. The computer is fine as I have been using it for weeks, I just wanted to do a clean install cause it came with so much bloatware and junk like Norton.

In any case.. it did stop at 62.3 but a microsoft forum tech guy suggested that means it has to download a large file so to be patient. And I did wait 15 minutes and it completed successfully. Then I also ran SFC /scannow and that found corruption and fixed it very quickly.

I rebooted, opened an admin command prompt again and ran everything again and there was no corruption found in either DISM or SFC.
Am I safe? I am a bit OCD and paranoid.. Is there any reason to format and fresh install again or if the tools come back 100% OK, is that enough to know everything is ok?

Sorry to bother you but had to ask as I am going nuts. That's OCD for you!

Ive encountered the restore health dism stuck at 62.3 too, but i accidentally close cmd during the process.

is it a bad choice?
After that ive run dism restore health again, after reaching 58.% it jumps to 100% all of a sudden and complete the scan
Is it normal ?
