I grew up on a pecan orchard and been in and out of farmhand jobs. I really would love to go in on owning my own farm. It's not an easy business to start from scratch though.

dad and i fixed milk coolers on about 200 family farms in the 70s before they became mega farms and feeder farms. Rural economy is more than tilling and milking. Lots of jobs evaporated due to the need for a more efficient system. One 9n and 30 cows cannot even begin to keep a family alive. To those like you that embraced change and mastered it, bravo!

But Granny, isn’t having only 2% farmers a good thing?? Through increased productivity due to mechanization, more people could get jobs in factories and or produce services. This one of the reasons why the US has a higher standard of living than most countries.
