How to Fix Can't Talk to NPC to Complete Mission in Starfield (Easy Tutorial)

I was doing the Freestar Rangers quest and I couldn't talk to Alex Shadid to hand in a mission to complete it. To fix this speak to your companion and then tell them to wait here for a moment and then go back to your NPC to speak to them and then you should complete the mission.

I don't understand why people don't bother liking your video. This worked for me. Maybe your fix is not for all NPC's, but it sure is for the part where you hand over a secure slate.

Just had the same issue.. I unassigned Sarah outside of the lodge then had to sit on the bench outside for 24UT hours until the crew menu said she was back in the lodge. Then went in and it was very sketchy and had to wait for Walter to glitch around during the conversation but it ended up going through finally and I think I’m good

I've had this problem but with all vendors in Neon on the left side of the city in from when you go down the elevator. Hoping this might work with this bug too

It did not work at all for me... I have sat down and waited for 24 hours reloaded my save quit the game and come back in went to other system shot at the guy and a few others and nothing works at all

I’ve had this problem since I started and tried all the recommended fixes. He won’t even get out of his chair now. No idea what else to do except to wait for a patch

I can't speak to npc's in game at all, it results in my character just freezes in place and usually one would think "oh, just the usual glitch/bug, just reload the last save or close the game and restart it and then reload the last save" right?... Noooo, so, I basicly can't finish the game... Like, at all. I just needed the last 11 temples before I needed to go to that planet to confront what's his name.

I am on the mission Start-up Stopped and when I hail the ship, everything is good, when I get on, no one will talk to me. I reloaded, left Andreja at the Lodge, waited 24 hours and nothing works. The only option I do have is to kill everyone and that progresses the quest. I'm playing as a pretty persuasive, good-leaning character so... yeah... not cool

I honestly don’t know what’s up. I tried this and it’s not working. I’m trying to talk to sona in the in memoriam quest and it just won’t let me. Now Sarah is locked as my companion

Thanks for this video, I also had this issue and I found that if you sleep or wait for 24 hours it will fix this bug and let you finish your mission

I was very excited to find this. I have the exact same bug, same spot, on the same quest. Unfortunately, this did not fix it for me. I was thinking of pick pocketing him and putting the chip on him but now even pick pocket for him does not work. Thanks for sharing though!

I can't talk to any NPCs, I've tried waiting, asking my follower to wait elsewhere, reloading. I've been trying to get the war relics and last will and testament quests started/completed but every time I try to talk to either the mayor or the guy about the microcell, it pops up with Sarah Mitchell's attributes and won't let me do anything else. Anyone have a fix please?

Hi, I have this issue when attempting to speak to Khan at the settlement with the robots. This doesn't work for me because I have another bug where when I try to speak to Sarah my entire character freezes. All I can do is focus on Sarah. I can't move or perform any action. I can access the console ( which I've tried 100 times w/100 different codes ) but all I can really do is reload in to the game to my earlier save point. I would love to try this. I feel that is what is breaking ALL 3 of my Major bugs. But the Sarah bug needs to corrected before I can do anything. After 240 hours. I've halted until there is a fix for this. It's either that or I start completely over which I'm waiting for next weeks update by Bethesda. If that doesn't fix it. I'm starting from a clean slate. TY!

My problem is when I go to talk to someone my guy just stands there and no dialogue comes up at all except when I talk to Sara or Walter and they talk about the one that died when I defended the eye, any suggestions on how to fix that

I’ve been having this problem for days but with every NPC and companion. Essentially all I can do now is run around a kill pirates and animals. I can’t do any mission and dunno how to fix it.
