Before we move weight around to ensure balanced running, we need to know that the rotor of a jet engine is straight and true.

I see your point. Vid was talking about 'runout', I was thinking thermal expansion. Everything grows, still concentric.

Hooked on your channel.

@ASSEMblerEX Carpet, plywood, rags, rocks, bolts, sheetmetal screws, ss banding, ...we are a repair facility, but no we haven't had a bird-damaged engine in the time I've been here.

@mrnewagemotor The complete compressor rotor weighs about 800 lbs. It always impressed me how heavy the rotating components of a turbine engine are... they seem to wind up so quickly.
There's a lot of torque in them thar engines!

When you mention the run out of .001 and then say that because of proprietary reasons you cannot divulge more - do you mean that you have ways of preventing excess run out that are really that secretive to your company? I would think that assembly is assembly and that the 'secrets' would have been passed from company/employee long ago.

.010 is close tolerance in large, long rotating assemblies. ever find a bent main shaft ?Ambient Heat can move it that much.
