This exact procedure only applies if the system has not lost any oil. Actual conditions differ. This does not apply if the system has had leaks which resulted in oil loss, which often is the case that causes compressors to fail and a replacement required which could have decreased the overall oil amount in the system. Example 10PA series pumps / I ensure about 100ml goes in every compressor that I physically fit in the car. Run the system once various loads, then let idle with A/C on for a while at high fan speed which tends to return more oil to pump. Recover and remove compressor, then check oil. If very low, you know you will have to add a decent amount to actually balance the system.

Example, a system with a large leak could only have a very small amount such as a few drops or maybe 5ml come out of the compressor and the rest of the system may have had hardly any oil left, you sure as hell don't put a brand new pump in with that low amount of oil in. As such doing the oil balancing in this case would give you a overall low oil amount and in this case the right thing to do is add 120ml of oil in - keeping in mind in some large or custom systems you can't add the entire oil charge for the system in the actual pump if need be and you have to split it into another component.

Also 120ml that comes with the new Denso compressor (allthough it might physically work and perhaps still last) is not the correct amount for the whole system this is wrong, many systems have much more than 120ml, often 160-230ml in the entire system, often if you read many Toyota service manuals from many larger cars you will see 8 ounces is common spec.

A very informative video regarding one of important component car aircon system. May I know how long we should add or change the compressor oil?

Thank you my friend. With a entire internet full of absolute useless BS information, your video was clear, concise, and straight to the point. This has helped me immensely. thank you my friend. I now only use Denso replacement compressors, instead of all those bitch brand.

Picked up a DENSO compressor for my 2006 Honda Civic Sedan along with what I understand to be the most common components to do a replacement (new condenser, drier, and expansion valve) and insure that I'm not cycling any old junk in the lines through the new compressor. Will be getting the system evacuated of all coolant and oil before replacing these components. The only thing I'm not replacing is the evaporator, which is a major pain to get out and replace. Am I understanding correctly that with the system evacuated and these 4 new components, oil balancing will not be needed? e.g., New compressor, condenser, drier, and expansion valve means the oil in the compressor is adequate for the system? Or will I be off and need balancing due to the evaporator not being replaced? 🤔

Thanks!

I have installed a new Denso 471-1145 compressor, a new drier and new hoses in my 93 4Runner. I vacuumed it down and tried charging it. It wouldn't take a charge and the compressor started to rattle. I pulled the compressor and took the top plate off, turned it upside down and not even an ounce of oil was in it. I added 3 1/2 ounces of mineral oil and reinstalled it. Today I put a new evaporator and expansion valve in it. I am ready to vacuum it and try charging it again.
Where did the oil in my new compressor go? Why did it rattle if it came with oil in it? I tried draining oil out of the evaporator. None came out and i flooded it with brake cleaner and poured the evaporator out in a can. A few droplets of oil were in it. I then turned my old compressor upside down and no oil came out. I left it overnight and about a half ounce drained out. The old compressor was barely making any noise and didn't rattle like the new one did. Now i am totally confused where the new compressor oil went to. Is it all in the new drier and old condenser? Is 3 1/2 ounces of added oil to the compressor too much or not enough? If i just added the amount of oil in the old compressor it would have been 1/2 ounce. I wish I would have checked the quantity of oil in the new compressor but i didn't. What should I do next? I am totally lost on where all the oil went. Please help.

Questions: That small plug on the bottom of the unit where you drained the oil, is there a seal on that plug that must be replaced if disturbed? The plug on my Denso unit also looks unusual, as if it were a safety relief valve of some sort, is that the case? I drained my unit thru the line ports by holding it line ports down over a container and rotating the shaft slowly until all oil stopped flowing out, because that seemed to work OK and I was not sure about disturbing that plug. Then I refilled it the same way thru the suction line port, again no problems.

Some Ting Wong with this advice. On my 05 Ford Escape the Ford spec is for 7oz. of PAG46. I replaced the accumulator (held almost 3oz. when old one was drained), condenser, and flushed the system . I installed a new Denso 471-8135 compressor, which their Denso spec sheet claims it came from the factory with 1.5oz. of PAG 46. This video is saying the 1.5oz. already in the new compressor is all my new system needs. That would leave me 5.5oz. short. Any warranty claims aside, that advice would cook my new compressor in short order.

The control valve connector was leaking on my compressor on my 2004 Jaguar XJR. How much oil/what type do I need to use?

There was only 30 ml of oil in my old compressor. The new DENSO compressor comes prefilled with 7.4 oz. Is it possible that the rest of the oil is still in the other AC system components? That seems like a lot of oil. Shouldn't most of the oil be in the compressor?

i, I am replacing my compressor, condenser, dryer and evaporator (all Denso) in a 1990 toyota pickup. It was converted from R12 to 134a many years ago. Will the new compressor (
DENSO 4711142) have the correct amount and type of oil in it for a 134a system? Also, how do I determine the correct amount of 134a to add? Many people online say to add between 75 and 85% of the R12 amount. Thanks.

Just bought a denso to replace my compressor and I’m replacing the condenser and receiver drier as well. My question is do I need to add oil to these new components too? Or will the unit come with the complete amount

I’m replacing the ac compressor and the condenser. Mercedes factory service manual calls for an additional 20 ml of oil in case of the condenser replacement. My question is do I have to put 140 ml of oil since it requires additional 20 ml of oil? Also, the brand new denso compressor is prefilled with 120 ml of oil and it matches exactly with the oil capacity listed in the MB manual. Thanks!

Why variable compressor with model no 5se09c don't last? Am living in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam city, this is city is located in coastal area where it is too hot and humid during day. To many cars in my city that come with 5se09c compressors, or any other clutchless compressors, these compressors tend to fail very early and easy even after few days of their replacement.

This problem is not common in my place for cars that come with fixed displacement compressors.

Can you help to understand what to do so that my 5se09c compressor to last? I thought of modifying the ac system by installing fixed displacement compressor with external clutch though i don't know if it can work...am tired of frequent replacements of 5se09c compressors and the condensers.
