Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Teardown!

The first Microsoft Surface Laptop was one of the least repairable devices we’ve ever seen! The Surface Laptop 2 looks nearly identical on the outside, so we’ll have tear it down to find out if Microsoft has made any effort to make their laptops repairable and upgradeable.

Our Pro Tech Toolkit came in handy this time!

Unbelievable some actually managed to make something less repairable than Apple. Oh well, I got my curiosity satisfied - not going to buy a Surface laptop. Not only it's not possible to upgrade storage if those tiny amount isn't enough in a few months - you can't even take it apart to clean the fan for dust. Had it at least been a fanless design...

Just got one of these in the workshop and yeh its a pain but not as bad as you made out getting the complete top cover off the keyboard plastic and fuzzy material comes off as a single piece, my iFixit tools made short work of getting in and getting those shields off - thanks! heres to more fixing!

Just being curious: to the left side of the ram is an empty space where a GPU could easily fit. Also some solderpads have already been installed. Are they reusing the PCB or are they planning on doing a GPU version?

Could you remove the battery if you didn’t care about getting out in one piece? And can you put the alcantara back on?

It should not have the same grade as the version1.. after all you could fix broken things on this one, like fx the top displaysection from another unit and fit it somewhat together on top of the plastic fusewelding to the keyboard metalfoil part and glue it tight.
on version1 it looked from your video like you simply couldn't get into it, without tearing the fabric.
so going for a screen repair with another part unit at hand, I would way more prefer to do it on version2 then version1 and be able to have a good locking product afterward.
