From records I've read, his wife was not terrified of him rather just, reasonably not interested in fornicatimg with him which was thankfully mutual because he had the mental faculties of a young child.

It's been recorded that he was fond of his wife because she let him play with toys. It speaks to the tragedy of this person's life, that he was expected to be a king and husband, bearing tremendous responsibility, that he loved the one person who saw him for what he was and would allow him to just be a kid.
