Be careful what you commit to.
The Vow, an HBO Original documentary series that provides an unprecedented look into the self-help group NXIVM, is now streaming on HBO Max. #TheVow #TheVowHBO #NXIVM

From Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning directors Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer (The Great Hack, The Square, Control Room) comes The Vow, NXIVM documentary series following a number of people deeply involved in the self-improvement group NXIVM over the course of several years. The Vow is a story of indoctrination and the step-by-step journey of NXIVM members defecting and outing Keith Reniere. The series takes a deep, nuanced look at the NXIVM organization, which faces with various charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, against its highest members – most notably founder Keith Raniere, who was convicted in June 2019 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Amidst claims by NXIVM participants of both profound transformation and devastating abuse, the series, like Noujaim and Amer’s previous films, seeks to reveal the issues behind the headlines and explore the emotional toll of unfolding events on these individuals.

This amount of positivity of this cult scares me. Really, this is disturbing.

Me as a kid watching movies:
America is a cool place to live
Me as an adult:
America is a weird country 🤦‍♂️

"Nobody joins a cult, they join a good thing".

Me: "Yea that's a cult.

His one mistake was that he didn’t register his cult as a religion. If he’d done that would still be operational.

Look at Alison's eyes at 0:18 . her pupils are fully dilated. She is totally mesmerized by his every word. That is not something she is faking. She is fully under his spell.

I worked as a production crew member on Smallville. I remember Allison Mack trying to recruit actress' (and some actors & crew members) on set to join. She succeeded with a few including an actress who appears in this documentary (Sarah Edmondson) & she "tried" recruiting her co-star Kristin Kreuk, but she told me she saw the red flags & left quickly.

Back then I had a serious teenage-crush on Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in Smallville. What a shame.

A low rate Scientology, but still horrifying.

Keith sounds exactly like *other* self-help coaches quite popular on the internet nowadays. They too have their herd of fanboys who think their Master is being incredibly profound, when he peddles banalities, logical fallacies and elaborate word salads.

I almost join this cult, but when I was "recruited", it was under the pretense of a job, the person who I was talking to said that i was gonna be on a "trial run" to see if I was fit for the job, he never told me what job it was (the ad had been for a personal assistant) but he said "actually I have a better job for you", he talked about all the perks about it, and what made me question things was the offer of free housing while I was on a "trial". When I saw the name on the news I felt extremely lucky that I had declined the "job", after I declined it I had felt a lot of regret because it was a good amount of money and the perks were amazing but it felt too good to be true.

Too much friend-zoning from Clark led to this.

Amazed at how many people were drawn in. The original message of finding joy in your life and meaning is a good one, appealing ... then people got drawn into his deep and dark side.

This is what red kryptonite does to you after prolonged exposure.

Nancy Salzman was my neighbor in Cheshire, CT when I was very young. Her daughter Lauren and I played together as kids. We visited them in Albany once when they moved from Cheshire. My brother was watching The Vow last week and said omg, that's Nancy. My family still can't believe they ended up in a cult. They seemed normal back then!

Anyway, watch the Starz documentary for a non-apologist and actually in depth look at NXIVM.
