Nothing changed after they published the announcement.If they keep updating and add some new function, we can't use, we must subscribe it!So that's why I transport my all notes from notability to the goodnotes!
Good bye notability, we won't miss you, you have lost your user and integrity.

Does anyone know the legal side of it ?
In Switzerland for example a contract like buying an app is fixed and cannot be changed afterwards. So they can stop making updates if you don't want to pay your subscription but they aren't allowed to take the product back from you. They need to give you access to the old app at all time.

The damage has already been done. I cannot trust Notability anymore. What if they make similar changes again in future?

How can I request my unlimited access? I have the application on my iPad before that update and now that I am going to use it I have this problem, I bought it when it was paid

To be fair, they heard the criticism, realised they had made a mis-step, and they did something about it. As a long time user this seems very fair to me. Well done Notability, and well done Tom for bringing it to our attention.

They did not do anything other than not lock their current users out, not before doing just that. So, they do not deserve any compliments. They tried to screw everyone over and they felt the backlash. Shame on them, and this shows the type of company they are - one that can’t be trusted. I doubt another issue will not arise in the future as they’ve demonstrated they do not value their user base, and this goes beyond this issue. Bottom line, we have a developer with poor business skills steering the ship.

so old users have more advantages than the new user? since they just pay for lifetimes, but new users need to pay every year? its seem fair?? i dunno i never used it before

I am not happy at all. They did the wrong thing. In app purchases or a notability 2 version for sell would be far more honest policy. Subscription models are pure greed.

Well the only way I found about the changes to Notability and its subscription was through your Great video and other YouTube videos who mention the same thing. There was no notification directly to me ….just finding out by word of mouth. The thing that angers me is not the subscription itself but by finding out by word of mouth from others. I’ve gone through my notability account and shows I’m SUBSCRIBED till nov 2022. I wouldn’t be surprised it will be a subscription based app when it comes to that subscription running out even though I’ve paid for the app out right . I feel like Notability is trying to be not just a note taking app but a digital journal and bit more.

math conversion, hand written recognition to text are now subscription only, those we had BEFORE this patch so why are they gatekeeping those if we ALREADY HAD THEM..??

NO, they they didn't listen to users. It seems that they didn't think well enough about it since they changed the terms 2 times in a few days, and against the rules of apple app market. Probably they were forced by apple to leave lifetime use for customers who already paid the app. I thought about buying it few weeks ago, I'm happy I didn't. I bought another one that will be maintained and probably will have few updates too. I would not trust that company after this kind of stunt even IF IT WAS FREE!

I'm a Noteshelf user, so this doesn't really impact me. I do wonder if other companies, like Noteshelf, will follow suit.

Obviously this new approach of Notability will calm down the current user’s anger (reMarkable made the same
U-turn when existing customer learned about subscription model which is quite similar to the one of Notability; external cloud storage, hand written to text conversion, …). It is very true that a yearly 15$ charge does not represent the same burden in countries with a much lower average income ! Unfortunately the same stands for the cost of an iPad / pencil and the acquisition price of the App… we all agree it’s a shame. Nevertheless your yesterday post remains valid and the new approach of Notability is very reasonable.
Keep your unprecedented interest in paperless mouvement 👍😊
