Me and my wife get the popcorn as well but with ear plugs its not as bad still annoying but ive learned to tune it out.
also tested the range last month when we went to death valley on are way to visit cally we got about a 1.1 mile before the signal started to cut out on avg.

As for my 20s. We get a high pitched, ear shattering, random squeal for reason I can never explain.

I had a similar problem with my Midland BTX, after upgrading the firmware and clearly the settings I thought I had fixed it but it came back. I then noticed that it if i charged the device from work with a random cable I always the got the popcorn noise. Tried a another USB charging cable (old jarbra one) and made sure I always fully charged it. Haven't had the noise since. Not sure if this just coincidence, or its a charging, power, battery thing. I can tell you one thing bloody annoying.

Newest ones I have are the SMH10 but I also have had all sorts of these weird sound issues with them and sometimes they connect right away others they don't connect until reboot. Threw a garmin zumo into the mix and all bets are off it is really dependent on which device you power up first. Sometimes streaming music from GPS comes through like AM radio quality. Also have the Sena Prism camera but don't use it anymore due to random connectivity issues like this. I don't think I am going to invest any further into the bluetooth technology, it is just not robust enough for this application yet. I know a wired system has that pain in the butt factor but so much more reliable and clear comms and sound. The only issue with that is bike to bike group chat in full duplex not really possible with 2 way radios or am I wrong on this? Does anyone actually ride in large groups and want to talk all together as a group in the real world? I know I don't.

It's clear that sena does not care because I have been looking for a few months and I have read 1000's of bad reviews! This has stoped me from buying this product! Guess I will look at the Cardio version!

Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but did you connect all Bluetooth to the 30K or have them all connected to the 20S and then brought the 20S into the 30K? If they were connected to the 20S, the popcorn would make sense. That 20S was terrible with popcorn noise because we had 4 riders all of the time. I upgraded to the 30K and love them, but we use the mesh now. We have brought in 2 other Bluetooth 20S devices into the mesh (bridged) and everything worked very well with no popcorn at all. I’m going to be adding more Bluetooth when I get time to test. You can add 3 Bluetooth devices per 30K and bridge them with the mesh network, so theoretically we can have quite a few Bluetooth folks added to our mesh.
