Unifi Home Network Hardware Setup in 2022

Follow along as I install a Unifi network in my new home in 2022. We used a Dream Machine Pro, 48 port POE switch, 2 Wifi 6 access points, and a few cameras.

As a suggestion. Switch out all those long ethernet cables from the patch panel to switch with, skinny ethernet cables that are 0.5 meters in length. Second, I would get an SFP+ between the 48port switch and the UDM pro. 3rd I would label your ports ;). and Last 4) If you do a lot of NAS stuff, I would also aggregate the ports on the switch and the Synology ( use all 4 ports) to get the maximum throughput and speed. or you can splurge get a 10gb NIC for the synology and use SFP+ to the switch.

Synology has a power loss setting that you can program in how long you want it to stay up and online before a safe shutdown of the hard drives and device. Will need a UPS with a USB tho, hopefully that one has one.

Silly Q, but why do you use the patch panel? Wouldn't you just plug straight into your 24P switch?

I have that same UPS, how did you mount it to the wall like that? I tried the paper and pencil trick to make a template for the holes on the back of the UPS but I must not be very good at that because my marks don’t line up properly to mount it to the wall.

I have a unifi switch connected to my cheap spectrum router that does do vlans. I created a network on vlan 20, created a port profile with vlan 1 as native. As soon as I assign that port profile to the port connecred to my laptop, I loose network connectivity. I am trying to understand why this is happening and I can ping other networks that I had set up within the switch. Can someone please help answer this questions for me. I onky have unifi switch, cloud key and my spectrum router.

I would like a good 4 5G Unifi Cameras and a door bell i have too many homelessness in my house so what do i need to get those 5 things working? Is a residential single house any ideas of what i need?

I put the patch panel between the UDM pro and Switch. I was concerned about heat. How are you finding the heat with them touching?
