A Ryzen 9 5950X does about 650 ST and 10500 MT in CB R20, just so you can compare the numbers with the rumored 810 ST and 11600 MT for a "12900KS".

I just subscribed and hit the bell button, now its all in your hands! No pressure lol I subbed to Moore's Law is dead when he had 400 subscribers so you never know... I'm always after some good analysis about the silicon industry. See you soon!

it already wins single core on an older node.

AMD will come with the 3d stacked cache as counter.
My predictions are: Intel will still win in ST performance and AMD will still win in MT performance. (performance/price wise)
AMD probably a bit better package overall for the average casual, just because it runs on less power.
Both sides will probably end up with a similar price.

Question is if we will get a good value improvement over last gen, now that there is a lot of competition with this monster performance coming up from intel.
Then I think in the question, whether to buy amd or intel, it comes more down to if you want ddr5 or not.
Which is not that much more than what you'd pay for DDR4 if you go for the really high speed sticks.
If they'd come out at an even lower price or higher rated frequency, they might offer a better futureproof investment. (but u can get 32gb ddr4-3600 for 100€ on ebay here in germany if lucky, so yea... prob not smart to upgrade to something new and shiny right now for the average joe)
Also notable is that I find it alot harder to find low cost mainboards for Intel processors than AMD.
AMD stock coolers are also actually somewhat decent, which might be a factor for lower end gamers.
I think intel will be less interesting for midrange gamers, since an i5 with 125-228w power draw is just not worth it. You need a beefy cooler and a big wallet for the electricity bills (in many countries atleast). Something you can probably just save on with a 3d v-cache 5600x equivalent, which will probably be rated at 65w(!) again and comes with said better cooler.

I wonder how far ppl can push those i9-12900k's tho. It might be a raw diamond to going for very high performance. Intel always felt like a more fun custom overclocking plattform to me. The RAM will probably make a big difference if you really want to push the boundaries. Trident z royal ddr4 is sold with up to 5333mhz. We can probably expect insane numbers if they go DDR5 and someone then puts them on liquid with a custom OC and timings. With AMD FCLK this is not gonna happen. AMDs memory scaling is abysmal and anything over 4000 ish mhz (if even) on RAM is just wasted money since the IF won't keep up.

intel should of just done 12 big cores for desktop, than they would beat AMD hands down. the little big core set up is good for laptops but no idea why they doing it on desktop .

Beating? Doubt it. Catch up and be competitive? Absolutely.
