Feel bad for anyone who had discovered an ancient city and went in not knowing about skulk sensors or the warden

I have to admit that the restone showroom is a nice touch. The restone behavior is so counter-intuitive that many beginners don't know where / how to start learning it, and the jungle temple was not exactly helpful for that matter.

Pro Tip: bring a bed, Ender Pearls of course and also a set of secondary armor, even iron armor will do, as long as the boots have feather falling. Place the bed, tap on the bed so you respawn there after you die. Place a chest next to the bed and put all your valuable items in there, like primary armor, elytra and everything you really do not want to lose. You don't need armor in an ancient city, because there are seldomly mobs to be found there and those should be easy to take out with a lesser set of armor and any cheap sword.

This way, if you get killed by the warden and should not be able to make it back in time, you will not cry like a baby over your stuff. Also the bed will help to respawn you in the area again, so you can continue ransacking the city.

Use silk touch enchantment, if you want to keep the sensors and shriekers to build a base alarm later or something. No worries, shriekers placed down arbitrarily by players do not summon the warden anymore.

I think the reason why there´s ice in the ice box structure is to store food and keep it from expiring and going bad by freezing it. I think it´s probably used as a fridge or freezer considering that there´s food in the chest with ice surrounding it.

One piece of advice I cannot stress enough: If things go very wrong, do not mine, do not tower. Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. The Warden is prioritizes making vertical attacks. If you are more than 15 blocks away horizontally, it cannot hurt you.

I found that breaking the chest is much better than opening it as opening the chest has the potential to alert the shriekers twice (once opening and then when it closes) and breaking only does it once.

I dont think it was built by the pillagers, I think it was raided by them and they started rebuilding it as they raided it and collected wool to help them in their quest to conquer it and they ultimately failed because the warden protected his turf.

I have been raiding ancient cities for over 3 weeks now. The key is to take out the shulk sensors (cuz shreakers take a bit longer to mine and also in key points are three or more) even while the warden is still spawning, so the site is neutralized for the next visit. Then use an ender pearl to throw in a direction that you have put your mind on beforehand, wait for the bastard to despawn and then just enderpearl back. That way back is recommended, because when you land properly, you don't even set off any sensors, if there are still some. I successfully looted a dozen of ancient cities by now and only fell victim to the Warden once in the beginning.

When looting an Ancient City for the first time, also bring along an anvil (or enough iron to make one) so the Swift Sneak enchantment can be applied to leggings ASAP.

I find it interesting how the Ancient City is either the safest place in the game, or the most dangerous. If you can remove all of the Sensors, Catalysts, and Shriekers, or just the Shriekers, effectively sanitizing the place of the Warden, the complete lack of mob spawning can make this one of the safest places to build a base. If you have even a single Shrieker and Sensor, well...

The note blocks on the top of the ice box is meant as a trap, since even if the player is sneaking, if they step on the pressure plate and trigger the note blocks, I think (I never tested this) that it sets off any nearby sensors/shriekers.

here's my take: there were 4 races in the world; humans, villagers, illagers, and piglins. they each ruled some huge cities. some horrible calamity occured with a massive outbreak of zombies. it devastated the humans, piglins, and villagers. i think the illagers from living underground (hence why their skin is grey) found a way to avoid infection and built the wardens for self defense. they kept the city clear of the dead and any other hostiles. something went horribly wrong and created the sculk. it spread and corrupted the wardens so the illagers fled to the surface to live in outposts and mansions.

I’m assuming the ice in the ice room was how the ancient city essentially kept a refrigerator in order to store all their perishables. Weird how you don’t have to worry about perishable items ever in Minecraft but hey it looks cool 😎

The Warden takes 6.7 seconds to crawl out of the ground, several more sounds or close by sniffs to get angry, and several seconds more to Sonically-charged shriek you. Honestly I wonder if a smash and grab approach might be viable. As long as you're pretty careful about not getting stuck when it gets dark.

This tutorial is great, but I personally like to rush this area as fast as possible, as the loot gained early on can be a huge boost, as long as you have wool blocks spare.

I raided 2 ancient cities, my first city I died many times, used the egg tactic some youtubers recommend, I don't recommend it, the more noise the warden picks up the angrier he gets. Raided second city without dying once, used a lot of wool and if the Warden starts spawning fly away and wait, the warden despawns really fast if you don't anger him. I highly recommend looting ancient cities the compass alone is worth the risk, but the best you can find in a ancient is swift sneak, must have enchantment for pants, makes building faster while holding shift

The achievement for dropping from world height to the bottom makes so much more sense now. They planned it all along, with a deep point in the world generating over a high point; genius.

Tip: Place a wool carpet on top of the sculk shriekers to stop warden from spawning.

The first time I discovered the deep dark, I had the luck to find that it was actually the entrance of an ancient city, I've watched a lot of YouTubers walking through the deep dark, but doing it myself is 10x scarier.
