In-Cab Ploughing, Aussie Farming Insights & Fire Safety Tests

First, we hop into the cab with Glynn to get a detailed look at the ins and outs of ploughing, offering insights into this essential farming process. Despite our best efforts, the crops remain unfit, which means no combining for now.

We're excited to welcome David Cox, an Australian farmer managing over 60,000 acres back home, who shares his expertise and perspectives on large-scale farming.

To ensure our farm is prepared for anything, we test out the latest fire sticks supplied by Spladings by starting a controlled fire in the yard. Safety is always our priority, and we show how these tools can help protect our crops and equipment.

Finally, we get hands-on in the grain store, fixing the conveyor belt to clear the backlog of wheat that's been piling up in the yard.

Join us as we navigate these ups and downs, sharing the reality of farm life and the resilience required to keep things moving forward.

One of the most honest, to the point interviews i've seen with an overseas food producer (farmer). Well presented Mr Peck, and great to hear from your ploughman, shows the skills involved in working with big machinery. Great vlog as usual, well done the video and editing dept.

So many similarities with the Australian gentleman to what I have found farming here in the Saskatchewan Prairie.
We came from England, bought land, some of the best land in the area, for $520/acre in 2000. We have quadrupled the size of the farm, expanding by renting, but over the last 2 years we have bought the majority of that rented land due to the health issues of our elderly landlords. A neighbouring block of land, which we do not farm, has just come on the market at $2875/acre, but is poor land, only 80% of the block is farmable.
We have found, as your Australian chap is experiencing, that the land is improving with better farming practices. Most of the land had been under a summer fallow system, weed control using steel one year with a crop the alternate year, and minimal or zero inputs!
Needless to say, this progress is almost universal across the prairies, with very significant average yield improvement, especially during the last 4 or 5 years.

Fantastic video, the firestick 'failure' is really important as I am sure many people see the on-line videos and think 'thats that' whereas knowing how to and where to use them seems critical.

Your mate said can you make the videos a bit shorter? This one is over an hour long! 🤣🤣🤣but as usual I loved it 👍The Australian chap was spot on. You gotta plough the land and start fresh every year 👍if you get a good deep fresh bed. The tiny seed will do the rest no matter what the weather 👍make the most of this coming week and crack on 👍

Excellent video James. Fascinating interview with your Australian friend, good to hear a farmer interviewing a farmer from another country. Ploughing video very informative as most people will not have operated a plough of that size!

Enjoyed the video and the talk with David cox i'm a retired farm worker and manager in 1992 me and the wife made a bucket list to visit her sister in Australia every 2 years and i would take photo and video of farming all the way round Aus, in 2015 i finished that from the top of Queensland to the far north of the western wheat belt, Esperance waspart that as my niece lives there, sadly it will be a while before i go back because the wife now as terminal cancer we have a lot of happy memories of our time there.

Thank you James for the update, it was really as always very informative, the interview with David from Australia was so educational, just shows the comparison and your questions to him were fantastic. those firesticks are nothing like they are advertised, I am a qualified extinguisher engineer and have look into those, yes small fire like a you showed in the barrel is about all they can do, but in the harvest field or grain dryer, waste of money. I as an x Frontier grain store manager of 32 years, really enjoy when you are talking, stores, dryers etc, just right in to my barrow. thanks again James, keep up the great work

Thank you. It was good and interesting to hear the chap from down under giving a different perspective, especially how their yields differ.
