Yea, that would possibly be the best and easiest way to avoid miskeying.

Look at the age of the design, it is old but still good, you assign priority in design. I remember that from wondering how they had a wired remote with a LED but did not have any electronics inside the remote. Not on the net but they did that by running the diode in inverse parallel to the keyboard and having a set of 4 analogue switches to flip the wires from the measuring circuit to led drive at 100Hz.
