Looked all over a Billato built Marin I set up for TTs over two decades ago. I can't find an SN anywhere. I believe it was a prototype for the Stelvio model. Happily, Peter Mooney's three digit serial numbers are easy to memorize.

I got that number off of the bottom of the bottom bracket and called specialized. And they said that was not the serial number, my bike could only be identified by the color, 2000 or 2001 specialized expedition sport aluminum frame

I knew the usual place to find the serial number but what do the numbers and letters mean? On Scott frames you are supposed to be able to identify the wheel size, e.g. 7 = 27.5 wheels and model, e.g. 45 = 745 but beyond this I don't know how to identify year of manufacturer, production line the frame came off and so on.
