We don't often think about the process of getting on a bike, but today that's what we're doing. Known as mounting, this skill is likely the first thing you'll learn after figuring out how to balance. Enjoy this two minute discussion on mounting, and let me know which technique you prefer.

normally I throw the bike in the air, then do a double backflip to land on the bike. it takes a little practise but does use the least energy and is also the quickest.

This man just made me self conscious about how I mount my bike while I'm lying in bed at 2AM

Personally I just don’t get off my bike so no need, I sleep with it, eat with it, you name it.

I know seth's favourite way of dismounting.
It's called OTB

So many people taking the piss here, but really focusing on basics that most people take for granted is actually really important. Excellent breakdown. Not exhaustive, but a wonderful document. Thanks for taking the time for this!

I like the one best, where I almost lose my balance getting my leg up, then getting my pants stuck on the saddle while already starting to roll downhill with all my weight on the bars, coming up to an obstacle and bottoming out my fork before going over the bars with my pants still attached to my saddle before landing flat on my back in my underwear next to a busy street.

I always had to rent a chopper and parachute on top of my bike, sometimes it's successful and sometimes i miss it so I'd have to redo it. Thank you for this video, it changed my life 🙏🏻😊

I put mine right outside my second story window, then jump down on it a 1850s western.

I've been learning to get on a bike for years, and it turns out this tutorial has been around for 6 years. Tomorrow, I will try it and hope I can get on my 15 years old bike. Thanks, mate.

I am an old lady, taking up bicycling after many years, but as a kid and young woman I rode a great deal. I am not very stable until I get going, and would live to swing my leg over as I did years ago, but I can't. Thanks for the tutorial. I may try it after I work on my nerve.

I'm impressed with the "difficult as possible". Time to start practicing this technique! Thanks for all the videos Seth.

You think Seth's Mom Hacks wants to rig up, I don't know, a couple hundred more of those frame bags? It's a beaut!

Thank you so much. I'm relearning how to ride after a decade, and my toes barely touch the ground. Also, my favorite is the step and swing. It's much easier than what I'd been doing.

TBH on the poll I selected the 70% method... But, thinking about it now... out on the trail - it depends a lot on the terrain i.e. uphill, flat, downhill, smooth, techy, gnarly, tight etc. Plus, it can be different if riding solo or with a group ^^

I'm thinking 70% the time I use the foot on & swing. The rest of the time, I'll use whatever works best given the situation.

I'm a beginner with probably less than 24 hours of riding under my belt and I use the "step over the top tube" method. Definitely need to learn the step and swing method, it's so smooth!

This video feels like one of Seth's original videos from way back when. I love it!
