Obviously this is a nation that could use EVs for transportation and not have range issues. Unlike the USA, Iceland is relatively small and perfectly suited for this. That would be an amazing transition for Iceland and I’m excited to see it occur.

When talking about Iceland and geothermal, it is always talked about the tectonic belt and what possibility that gives. And that volcanic line gives great possibilities.
But Iceland is not only using geothermal energy in those areas. In the last years it has turned to the cold areas east and west of that line and found geothermal energy in those "cold" areas. So now we have and are building district heating using geothermal energy in those areas.
Geothermal heating in those areas is economical because otherwise you would need either the hot water over long distance, or use more expensive heat sources.
Using the hot water in those areas to produce electricity, is at is non economical, as you would either have to use binary cycle power plants using the hot water, or would to have to drill far deeper to find steam. At this time Iceland have still a lot unused resources to produce cheap energy.
Just as a comment, steam or hot water from geothermal energy was not used to heat the first house around 1900, but more than 1000 years ago.

In the 1970 Iceland had access to all the Soviet oil it could consume reliably. So the oil crises
did not have any effect in Iceland.

After the experience last year I came to the conclusion only geothermal power is fool proof
we know that solar and wind are intermittance, and even the normallly reliable hydropwer of Norway was affected a draught in the summer
