STOP Carb Depleting on Peak Week 🛑
Save this so you don’t do it!
The idea of depletion on peak week is to further the ability to load carbohydrate.
However, part of the need of peak weeks is to drop off fatigue as well. Depleting glycogen levels further can generate more fatigue which can create more water retention.
A secondary issue is you are digging a further hole you have to fill in. More carbs is not a good thing. We need to consider digestion and waist control.
Another consideration is that a supercompensation of glycogen may far exceed the best look for a bodybuilder to get on stage compared to what an athlete would use to compete in a sport.
There is also a “modified” carb loading approach used in athletics now that avoids depletion days as trained athletes can supercompensation glycogen any way, avoiding the fatigue and complexity of the extreme diet and training protocols associated with the previous depletion phases and within 1 day of intake many can fully max out glycogen stores. PMID: 12111292
Don’t over complicate your peak week and move more variables than you need to. Do the least variable manipulation to get on stage at your best as this will create an easier assessment for you coaching and more predictable look.
Do you deplete doing your peak week and was it better or worse? ⬇️
