Knitting tutorial: Picking up stitches along a slipped stitch edge

Technically exactly the same as picking up stitches along any other edge, but this way requires a little more digging around! A slipped stitch edge makes for a pretty visible seam on the outside of the fabric, which is a feature of my Anyday sweater, cardigan and vest patterns.

omg I love this "chain" effect on the side! So genius! I'm in love with this pattern and this color as well, so beautiful!

Thank you for this. I mostly have knit shawls and the like, where slipping the first stitch is desirable, so I did that with a sweater, not realizing it would make it harder to pick up the right number of stitches. This is letting me pick up additional stitches between the big slipped stitches. Other videos are basically saying I did it wrong, which is evident. I am not unknitting my whole sweater avoid slipping the edge stitch. Thanks again!

Thank you! I’m making your CalmDown cardigan and am so impressed with the design, fabulous high end garment. The instructions are wonderfully clear, as is this very helpful tutorial, with great close ups so we can see just what you mean as you go along. I just hope I’ve sorted my row tension out - my purl rows were too loose so I think I’m adjusting it for spot -on tension as I go along fingers crossed. The recommended yarn is beautiful too, such a gorgeous grey. You are very talented! 😊

Thank you for the video! I’m currently working on a sweater that specifically asks for the slip stitch selvedge for the edges that will be picked up later. I’ve never seen any patterns like that before so i was confused as to why it was designed this way and how to deal with picking up later. This video answered both questions!
