So everyone should head straight over to Dreaming Spanish and just watch videos the same way you just spend time watching TikTok. I’m serious as a heart attack. Don’t analyze. Don’t look for subtitles. Start with the easiest stuff you find and just keep watching. In every moment of free time And schedule the time. Just keep spending time on it.
I’ve heard it said that you don’t learn a language; you just get used to it. Then you start using it. Don’t rush to beat Jonathan’s pace. Just get the Spanish into your ears. Do it consistently enough and it will come out of your mouth ❤

It's crazy how much focus we put on subconscious knowledge, but work the opposite when it comes to learning languages! Appreciate this insights, Jonathan!

That's how I improved my English. It all started with bball tutorials I was highly interested in, which provided strong motivation to keep going. In a short time my ears got used to various accents and voices, and later on I began to increase the play speed and it helped me to further advance my understanding. Now I can effortlessly watch videos about complex subjects like science and politics. The more you listen, the more new phrases get stuck in you head and you may use it in your speech easily.

I've been studying Spanish for a little over a year. More effort means more results for me. I disagree with the do less approach. I think that when you're learning the language you have to mix it up. When I expose myself more to the language Im definitely learning even when I don't notice it. The secret is simple. Study with a native speaker this is most important

Great to hear this as a fellow British person learning Spanish.
The unconscious is structured like a language.

Your video is great, and of course, I understand you, I'm telling you this as a native Spanish speaker who use to struggle sometimes with English and wants to improve it and had the doubt of how that experience is for English speakers who want to learn Spanish. I actually realized I've learned even much more by speaking to native people, watching interesting English videos by myself, and having a fun time while learning than when I studied in my English schools classes. That's why I think I've improved even more in this last year I've been doing those kinds of things. As a final point I've never been to some English speaker country, I've lived my whole life in México so sometimes it's really hard to keep going with this but there's no excuses when you really want to achive your goals.

Brilliant! I've been working on Spanish for almost a year and feel like I'm getting nowhere when it comes to speaking with natives! What you said makes sooo much sense, when I listen to music or watch fun shows in Spanish I feel like I'm getting a better grasp of the language without putting in much effort!

recently (last 4 days) ive been watching Tangled in Spanish with english subtitles. I am picking up so much more because I 1. love the movie 2. spending more time doing less. I'm gonna continue with this until I feel comfortable switching to Spanish subtitles. This is inspired by the DFNS video I saw about watching spiderman 50 times lol and I feel like its helping so much more.

Comprehensible Input is magic. I can watch just about any everyday vlogs and news in Spanish... took me nearly four months but holy crap four months of school or Duolingo or whatever I´d be so much worse right now. My speaking isn't great yet but seeing my progress so far I have no doubt that it will come in the next year!

This came at the absolute perfect time for me. You've described exactly what I've been going through. As I've struggled, I've doubled down on my effort and sure enough, my discouragement and disappointment ballooned. I felt like "I should be better than this" with all the effort I was putting in. As a result, I was backing away from it and looking for excuses. Thank you for this Jonathan. Your journey and success is a huge inspiration.

Saw your interview with Pablo and thought it was amazing! So happy to see you break it down in English so I can get that 15-20% I missed in that video. Thank you for sharing!

2mins in and that first issue ive had I big problem with; after learning French for last two years I don't understand why I always get so tongue tied when it comes to comprehension or speaking. That "Asset / bank balance" analogy is MONEY (pun intended) what a brilliant way of putting it man great video
