JWST Has Bad News For Life on TRAPPIST-1 Exoplanet

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has gathered new data on "TRAPPIST one C", a rocky exoplanet 40 light-years away, revealing that its atmosphere is either incredibly thin or non-existent, making it unsuitable for life.
With a dayside temperature of about 225 degrees Fahrenheit, the exoplanet is the coolest rocky world ever characterized.
"TRAPPIST one C" is one of seven planets orbiting an ultracool red dwarf star, which is common in the Milky Way.
Webb's Mid-Infrared Instrument was instrumental in studying the exoplanet’s atmosphere, or lack thereof.
Researchers initially speculated that "TRAPPIST one C" might have a thick carbon dioxide atmosphere, but findings indicate a barren or extremely thin atmosphere. This breakthrough allows astronomers to further explore atmospheres on rocky exoplanets and assess their potential for habitability.

Trappist 1c is the closet to the star so this is expected to be very hot and hostile. The focus planets are trappist 1d and trappist 1e

Dammit, we could have been there in less than 350, 000 years

Damn IT! Trappist was my first choice. 😳

Since it's 40 light years away, I don't think I'm going to stress over it. Interesting to know, though. What an amazing place the universe is.

Life is crazy. Imagine staring out into the ocean and your the only thing to ever witness waves. People take it for granted but it’s special. Probably billions of ocean out there and nobody to see the beauty, or appreciate it

Red dwarfs are extremely unlikely to harbor any life in its planetary system for 2 reasons. 1) they are small and not that hot, so planets must be close to it to be in habitable zone. 2) Red dwards are extremely volatile. So it would sterilise said planets and habitable zones and its solar winds would destroy its atmosphere.

TRAPPIST-1c is too close to its star either way to be habitable. We need to focus on TRAPPIST-1d and e.

The coolest rocky world ever found, orbiting an ultracool dwarf star. Honestly, it sounds pretty cool.

The one with the most hope for life is Trappist 1e I believe

If we could build a huge space station with its own atmosphere, water, ..we don't need to look for a planet...🤔

Why use farheineit units in a science oriented account?

I thought Trappist 1e was the planet most likely able to harbor life.

I bet all our UFO’s are just aliens leaving Trappist.

Trappist 1c is still outside the star’s habitable zone, so let’s see what they find with Trappist 1d-g

Aww! 🥺 That's a shame. And it's only a mere 40+ light years away.
