Segment labeling: All of the segments with the same letter have the same optical shape, which is driven by their distance from the center of the mirror.

I hope lessons are learned for the next telescope.

B and C are at different distances from the center.

I can't wait until 12 😬
The people who aligned the telescope first aligned A mirrors and then B and then C. There must be a little sync with naming

0:05 But will it be okay? James Webb is orbiting a, more or less, six-billion-year-old gravity well. I get dust bunnies under my bed if I don't sweep every week, and while L2 and my bed have almost nothing in common, the one thing they positively do share is physics. They say L2 isn't stable, niether is my bedroom yet the dust bunnies still collect. The physics parameters may be slightly defferent, but space around L2 and the space under my bed both do the same thing; trap and collect dust. JWST has just become the greatest mass in a dust collecting gravity well. It's unfortunate, but inevetable, and it has already been hit several times not just once.

You can thank the dummies who decided to put it in the L2 orbit for this.
