The City of Austin and the Travis County Sheriff's Office could be facing a lawsuit after a 71-year-old hearing-impaired Florida woman was charged with criminal trespass at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport last September. Karen McGee was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail. Attorneys say her arm was broken during the booking process.

If a cop breaks an elderly disabled woman’s arm they shouldn’t have to be taken to court to provide justice. They should have empathy and fix the situation on their own rather than trying to fight it. You did this. It’s on you. Take responsibility. Imagine that’s your own grandma. And your grandma is deaf.

Which is why people shouldn't jump to conclusions. I hope this woman wins her lawsuit against the police and the airport.

Don't be manhandling the elderly.
Just don't.

It’s hard to understand how multiple grown men felt comfortable being so rough with a old lady

This is what happens when cops are trained to treat every one as an enemy

What brave souls on the Austin police force saving us from the deaf elderly woman mafia. I haven't seen this level of bravery since Uvalde.

Strip them of their qualified immunity, then sue them and foreclose on their assets. Bullies need to be crippled for life.

I wear hearing aids. She was in a wheel chair. The persons in charge of getting wheel chair travelers failed to get her to the correct gate. How does a cop break a persons arm in a wheel chair? I mean seriously? When I flew in May to Colorsdo every place I went in my wheel chair the gate agents made sure I was in the right place. So even if she couldn’t hear them the gate agents should have known she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. Shame on Austin airport. They didn’t take care of that flyer. I’ve always been treated very well by the gate agents and the hostess. I even had a pilot come out of the cockpit and take myself and another older lady off the plane when we needed to be taken to a different location. Then he went and got us a drink and a burger. That was in Dallas. I fly out of Austin and am always treated well. I can’t imagine why this cop in the Austin airport would rough up and break the arm of a old woman with hearing loss.

While she have a hearing disability, these policemen and guards must have some form of cognitive disability since they dont know how to treat people. I really hope this women will get millions by suing.

The cops in Austin are such a wonderful bunch. Protecting and serving us all and seeing that they fulfill their oaths in such a special way. You can bet that they even sent her flowers while she was recuperating from that mysterious broken arm.

Each and every public servant should be individually bonded and insured then the actuaries could weed out the bad ones based on risk.

They should arrest the airline employee too for calling the cops on an old deaf woman instead of trying to help her. That's nearly SWATTING

This is not the first time police assaulted a deaf person for not obeying verbal commands.
