ADHD and binge eating disorder. How to stop binge eating.

In this video, I'll show you how to stop binge eating if you have ADHD and what to do. A great video if you want to stop bingeing, stop overeating, and how to stop eating too much.

A lot of people with binge eating disorder also have ADHD and can be compulsive. This can lead to a lot of compulsive overeating.

It's part of my series on how to overcome food addiction and overeating.

I like this perspective on binge eating: looking for stimulus in a non stimulating environment.

“Recognize these incoming impulses then say, ‘No that’s not what I want to do I need to concentrate on this.’ And if you can do that, that’s a huge asset because you can concentrate and focus better than everybody else.”

Bruh, that’s the epitome of ADHD… not being able to concentrate and focus on what I want to, when I want to. I equate it to riding a wild stallion- I follow whatever my brain latches onto- whether it’s for 6 seconds or 6 hours.

Btw, you really need to understand the role neurotransmitters play in ADHD. You clearly have not understood the link between dopamine (that our brains release when we eat certain foods) and low dopamine in ADHD brains. Additionally, you don’t seem to understand emotional dysregulation and how ADHDers can also sometimes use food to help regulate their emotions. To tell us ADHDers to try harder and set boundaries and not give into impulses is unhelpful. What we need are strategies, practical, ADHD-friendly strategies/skills to overcome our unhealthy relationship with food.

Sorry if I sound snappy. I’m not in the best mood and I guess this video triggered me in that it echoed a lot of the negative messages I’ve heard my entire life: ‘you’re not trying hard enough’, ‘you’re just lazy’ ‘you could do better if you wanted to’, ‘it’s not that hard’, etc. And I know that’s not your fault, and I understand you’re trying to be helpful. But the underlying message is not helpful, it’s destructive because you’re basically telling us that our food issues are our fault, without recognizing that our brains are working against us to set up this addiction in the first place.

As a person with diagnosed ADHD, this whole video, from a person who is admittedly NOT ADHD himself, sounds like Just Try Harder.

Which is wack.

If you don't live with this particular disability, it's arrogant for you to try to tell us how we should manage it.

Just Try Harder and Control Your Impulses doesn't work.

I got diagnosed in 3rd grade, cos I was close to not having it- I never got help. Its only gotten worse, and my mom just blames me for everything that has to do with it. Its awful tbh. I went from binge eating and at this point I realized Im eating less and less. I really hope my hyperfixations dont choose to get obsessed with getting thin/losing weight

I bet you he says to practice mindfulness, to all the people suffering from a disorder causing pretty severe compulsiveness. I have been practicing mindfulness and then i proceed to mindfully do it anyway causing me to have more self esteem issues and being disappointed in myself and leads to depressive episodes. why try..
