Famously, the film The Longest Day has a moment of dark satire near the end when a German soldier during the Normandy invasion comes up from a bunker waving his arms and yelling "Bitte! Bitte! (Please! Please!)" And the young US soldier standing there immediately shoots him down, then turns to the others and says. "...I wonder what 'bitter bitter' means."

(Historical context/context) so basically this is referring to a scene in “Saving Private Ryan” we’re on the D-Day scene these two Czech soldiers dressed in German uniforms were surrendering and since the Americans didn’t speak Czech they just shot them and this was a kinda true fact that in the summer of 1944 Nazi Germany was really low on manpower because there were fighting on 3 fronts they recruited soldiers from around the country (including Czechia) and even some puppet states to defend Normandie and Hauts de France.
