How Does Powder Coating Work? 🎨🖌️ #powdercoating #metalwork #diy #usa

take a look workers are putting this fence into a powder that looks like it's boiling when the fence is taken out the once shiny fence is now covered in green powder so why put the fence into this colored powder is it to paint them you guessed right this indeed is the process of coating a metal surface and this type of coating is called powder coating it's widely used in household appliances automotive parts and other metal materials processing but powder coating is a dry solid powder how does it uniformly stick to the surface of objects we all know that common Coatings are liquid so they easily stick to objects once the liquid component of the coating evaporates it firmly adheres to the surface of the object but these Powder Coatings are actually electrostatic when they touch rough metal they also stick to it however powder stuck through electrostatic adhesion easily falls off so materials like epoxy resin are added.

The powder coat is put in an oven so the powder melts and creates a shell of color on the part.

Okay I used to do powder coating. Use electrical static to attach it then you put it in an oven at 410 degrees for 20 minutes. It is extremely hard at that point and a great paint job. If you want you can cut it with a glaze after that and then reset it into the oven for another 20 minutes. These guys saying it falls off because they didn't bother to tell you you got to eat it in an oven.

I did the floors for the guy who invented powder coating. He's the richest person I've ever met. He's a pretty cool old dude. Down to earth. That is if he's still alive. This was over 20 years ago.

Those dudes with nurse masks 😷 not good. You need a full body positive air pressure suit for the bigger stuff.

I had a 12 speed road bicycle that I had the frame powder coated Hot Pink. It was so bright that people used to ask me where I kept the batteries.

I've got a bumper on my pickup that was powder coated 23 years ago. Its got some marks on it where I backed into a concrete block wall and one scratch that shows some rust but the powder coat shows no signs of coming off. The company that did the work made exercise equipment, powder coated all their parts but also did outside work to keep the department busy. I also had some parts done for a couple of semi show trucks that I put together. Powder coat is not easily damaged.

No mention of an Iron Phosphate conversion coat prior to paint or equivalent pretreatment? Powdercoat adhesion relies on a pretreated substraight if you expect it to last. It's definitely better than liquid.

Powder coating, and it doesn't last long, The smallest crack in the paint, it starts to rust and peel off very quickly. Don't wast your money.

Here in New Zealand I delivered freight To Auckland the major city from Tauranga 2 hrs drive away one of our regular customers was a powder coater to there customers in Auckland. You have to be careful with it because its very easily damaged. Easier than painted sheeting

The one they dipped is hot. Worked for a company that customized parts for power & gas plants & we dipped copper bus bars to insulate them.

These workers need compensation for the health issues these compounds are causing them. You can see those new white flimsy masks were handed out just prior to filming. Those medical masks are Not used for this purpose in a employment environment in non slave labor countries.
