Damon Hill imposed this sentence because of a grudge from the past. Schumacher made good use of the gap in the rules. If a change was to be made, it should have been after the current incident.

I can remember thinking at the time that the penalty was ridiculous and it must’ve had more to do with Michael Schumacher being targeted than Michael actually doing anything wrong to deserve it. And that was before I remembered Damon was the driver steward that weekend! 😂

Ok i just read the FIA articles regarding safety cars in 2010 and what Schumacher did is considered an illegal overtake. 40.7 could have been challenged but it states that on the last lap of a race, if the safety car is still deployed/coming in, article 40.13 will apply which goes as following:
"If the safety car is still deployed at the beginning of the last lap, or is deployed during the last lap, it will
enter the pit lane at the end of the lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking"
So personally, those 20s are still harsh but Michael broke the rules. Penalty is penalty

The second most petty, limp-wristed bitch move of all time to dish out a penalty for that, Damon (right after Suzuka 89’).Also Fernando has been caught lacking by an elderly man, what a shame.

I remember that i only learned that he’s been given a penalty by my dad the next morning at the dinner table, he was saying “Oh yeah they penalised him because of the overtake, he’s been dropped to 12th” and i was sitting in school being furious about it all day 😂

Michael was an absolute menace on track even in his Merc days, wheter people like him or not they have to admit this much.

Article 40.13 in the rule book explicity states that is not allowed, when the aafety car is deployed on the last lap. I think the race directors should not have called the green flag at the end though? Maybe they need to brush up on their own rulebook?
