Something really interesting that I just noticed about Mario themes is that they all seem to have a brief introduction to the theme, making it easier to identify. Perhaps that explains why they are so catchy, since, at least for the first Mario bros and Mario 64 probably the most known/remembered sections of the main themes are the introduction and maybe a couple measures after it.
