The Romanov Four Sisters | Part 2: The Tragic End

Testimony of a guard: "It is a shame to admit it, but all of us were guilty as to those unfortunates. We made fun of the defenseless girls. We would keep on continually offending those young girls, and watched their every move."

The Romanov sisters were the most photographed princesses of their day, yet the world knew very little of the four girls in the official portraits. The daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra have often been considered nothing more than the pretty backdrop to the larger and more dramatic story of their parents and tragic hemophiliac brother Alexey. Despite what portraits depict and behind the dutiful image existed four very vibrant and fascinating and most of all, distinct, personalities.

A two-part series focusing on Tsar Nicholas II's four daughters - Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia - combining interviews with leading historians, stunning archive footage, and dramatic reconstruction to reveal the real girls behind the fairy-tale images.

Ironic how they looked like the fairytale Princesses but their ending was a horror story not the fairytale ending. God bless them.

They went through a great trial. For 16 months while incarcerated, the enemy tried to destroy their souls, by intimidation, mockery and oppression, but listening to Maria’s beautiful words in Ekaterinburg about the sun shines and the birds sing, it appears they failed. Their love for each other and their love of God was too strong. The brutal destruction of their bodies was all these poisoned minds could do in the end.

The first couple minutes of this makes the ending even more heartbreaking. Those poor girls, and the boy, did absolutely nothing to deserve what happened to them. There could be debate about the parents. But the five kids, nobody supports that. And that’s exactly why the Soviets tried to keep it quiet.

Maria's letter to her brother Alexei brought tears to my eyes, such sweet and loving words for her sibling. I have become fascinated by the Romanovs.

I am a Turkish Muslim woman and my ancestors at the time of these events were in war with Russians and my country suffered lots and lives were lost due to the war. But here I am weeping and feeling the pain of this family as this is at the end of the day a human story and they were just a family who had to suffer due to their destiny in which they had no say. All the pain is human pain and all the troubles we go through are the same no matter what time you live in or at which part of the planet you are.

I've never been religious, nor did I really believe in Heaven, but I hope with all my heart that this family is in a better place now.

The thing that breaks my heart the most is that this was a normal family when you remove all of the royalty and gold. A gentle loving father a boring family man at heart. A loyal group of adventurous sisters, an outside the box kind of mom. And the baby of the family and only boy. They just wanted to be a close knit family and grow together. This wasn’t necessary 😭😭😭

In memory of these innocent victims... let us be kind to each other, let us be decent, let's love each other - all people, all races, all faiths. This is what I take into my heart from the story of the Romanovs.

Funny how kings have always had mistresses but as soon as there are rumours regarding a Queen that she is sleeping with someone besides her husband the whole country goes to shit.

Many tears are shed with the story of the Romanov's. The children all sound so kind in their letters and journal writings which is a reflection of their parent's love. I bet the parents would have gladly given their lives to satisfy the hate going around in trade for the children's asylum.

This series is wonderful. These delicate girls tried so hard to become "normal". Their deaths were truly a war crime.

As inept as the tsar and tsarina were at their jobs to the people, it's really endearing how much they loved each other after 20 years of marriage and how close the family was. The fact the girls were raised very simply and as down to earth as princesses could be is also really sweet.

My great grandmother lived in Russia at this time and had to go to Germany. She eventually had children there and lived through the second world war in Germany.
As she got very old, in her nineties, she reverted back to speaking old Russian, instead of the German that I had only ever heard her speak.
Thank-you for your documentary.

It's always sad when innocent children, no matter they are the royals or the poorest, have to suffer bcz of power hungry and blood thirsty adult actions.
The Royal family all of them were so beautiful or handsome, listening to the words written by innocent princesses is heart wrenching. I cried at the end of the video.
The four purely beautiful sisters, and little brother must have become angels 💐

As horrible as the outcome was I feel a sense of relief they had such a strong faith in God. That is what stood out in this video. That and the devotional love of their parents.
