Philips Norelco One Blade VS Safety Razor - Which Shaves Best?

I've had many, many requests to try out the Philips Norelco One Blade electric razor, so I decided to buy one and give it a try. In this video, I put it head to head against a safety razor that won't break the bank, the Parker 99r. Which one comes out on top? Am I comparing apples to oranges? Let's shave and see...

The one blade is designed for people with sensitive skin. It goes almost as close as any razor goes but without scraping your skin. Been a godsend for me with Eczema.

I don't really know why i watch a man shave for 14 minutes but i enjoyed the hell out of it 🤷🏻‍♂️.

YouTube has some strange algorithmes

I prefer the One blade to safety razors, cartridge or other electric razors. It cuts close, but not too close. I can shave dry and get zero irritation. It cost more per shave, but definitely worth it for me. Baby smooth = breakout and major irritation for me.

his light weight humor was what kept me hooked to the video to the end

Thank you for this video. I am a black man who takes blood thinners, so I deal with shaving bumps due to ingrown hairs and bleeding quite a bit if I nick myself. Even though the One Blade doesn't shave as closely, it might meet the needs of someone like me. I have had mine for about three months and I shave maybe twice a week. Agreed, it's not for everybody but I find it quite sufficient.

I love my One Blade. I can shave dry, I no longer have irritated skin and it's amazing shaving private parts, no cuts, close shave and no after itching

I’ve personally invested heavily financially and practically in shaving. Here’s what I’ve found based on years of experience looking for shave I want. (I want the smoothest quick shave without getting ingrown hairs or irritation.)

1) Annually, with daily shaving, the Oneblade will cost the same as buying the Braun Series 9 with cleaning cartridges replacing the cleaning cartridge solution every 19 cycles (I took over two weeks to count exactly how many cycles until the light turns on.)

2) The Philips Norelco OneBlade doesn’t provide the closest shave when “close” is defined by the length of hair protruding from the skin. However, “smoothness” I have found the OneBlade can provide (with extra work) a shave nearly as smooth as a Double Edge Safety Razor. This is all from my experience, not the opinions of others.

3) Using Leftric Shave or another electric pre-shave will make this even smoother.

If your goal is the closest shave, the Gillette Fusion 5 should be the winner because it will cut under the skin, but that’s a problem. Cutting under the skin produces ingrown hairs. Don’t get me wrong, the experience of taking a warm shower followed by shaving against the grain with a new Gillette Fusion 5 ProGlide using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel is AMAZING. (Assuming you didn’t break out in ingrowns the next day.) But you know, like I do, that those sharp, amazing shave experiences don’t last very long on those blades.

In my experience, the way to get an oil-covered baby butt dish soap lathered slip and slide smooth shave is using a double-edge safety razor. The best part is you don’t get breakouts. It takes time to learn, but I go against the grain everywhere on my face (except for my adam’s apple) every time I shave and am never disappointed by blade performance. Double edge safety razors are much sharper, profoundly cheaper, and easy to learn.

The Philips one blade is the most comfortable razor I have ever used to clean shave. I don't think anything else can be as comfortable. It's the only one I use now to shave. There's no skin irritation, cuts or pulling of the hair like rotary razors. It's the best choice.

I have Philips ONEBLADE, it's good for people like truck drivers who don't often have the opportunity to shave, it's also good for teenagers who are just starting to shave like my younger son, who can't stand facial hair and has acne problems, but for a quality shave I recommend DE razors ..

The best shaving video I've seen yet (and I've watched a bunch). It's absolutely insane how many razors there are these days, making it almost impossible to find "the best". Thanks for the great information.

The tiny Barbasol 😆 that was genius! 👏🏻 nothing will ever beat a safety razor! Watching your channel inspired me to amass my own collection of vintage Gillette safety razors! I’ve bought 4 of them from various shops on Etsy it’s like my crack now lol I’ve purchased 3 super speed flare tips and also a 1967 Slim adjustable! My fiancé also bought me a special wooden display stand for them all and my brushes 😊

I fully expected to fast forward through most of it, but I ended up watching it all. This guy has a relaxing effect for some inexplicable reason.

Sinatra !!!
I do not know but I prefer the old school safety razo's are the best way simply more efficient, the new methods are not my thing.

I came across the video almost a year ago when I was considering replacing my electric razor with the Norelco OneBlade. This is the video that got me to try a safety razor instead. I started with a Van Der Hagen, but quickly upgraded to a Rockwell 6S after seeing it in so many of your videos. I’m very happy with my choice to switch to shaving with a safety razor. Thanks for putting out all of the videos you do!

I find that the safety razor ended up tugging at my hairs more and caused more bleeding, no matter how much shaving cream i used or how much i moistened my face beforehand. I went out and got the Oneblade and have had ZERO issues with it. For what it is, it cuts pretty smooth and causes little to no irritation for me. Id recommend it
