Did this on a Kawasaki FR651V engine.. I drilled out the thin welsh plug with a 2.5mm drill bit. Unscrewed the tiny screw, counting the turns and then back in. Fixed!. To keep crap getting in I then put a tiny tiny piece of duct tape over the missing welch plug and sealed with a large blob of silicone. Fixed!

Wish I had found this video first, would have saved me from totally dismantling and cleaning my carb. Nothing worked till I seen your video.

Thank you

Wish I had seen this before a local repair shop soaked me. They replaced the carb and after a few hours the same problem recurred. Thanks for posting this video.

Thank you so much for your video. Adjusting this screw fixed all my surging issues at idle.

This worked exactly like you said. I was worried about drilling that out. Sure enough it fixed my idle issue! Hod bless you Sir.

This worked like a charm! I have an FR730VC on a Gravely and like you said it has the same carb set up. I didn't even have to adjust it actually. Before I started it, just turned it counterclockwise a quarter turn, clockwise a half turn and then back to original position. Fired right up with no surging.

I’m going to try this. Cleaned the carb with a carb kit, didn’t have that small Welch plug must have fallen off. Put it on, still surging at any speed. Going to take off that idle adjustment and see if that helps. Thanks.

I cleaned carb, new spark plugs, new fuel filter, new air filter drained fuel and added sea foam… helped but didn’t fix. Adjusted this and bam! Fixed! Is this the low jet? Mine was only surging at low and mid idle now it’s purring.

Why would you have to adjust this over factory screw setting? Does this wear out over time? Or is the jet partly clogged and we are overcompensating more fuel to stop the lean surge?

Solved my issue right away, thank you! Is this a one-time fix or does it need to be repeated as time goes on ?

Thank you for this informative video. I did as you described and it cleared up the idle surge problem on my Kawasaki FR691V. Is it necessary to recover the adjustment screw access after making the adjustment? Thanks again.

Thanks a bunch man, sure appreciate it, the idle screw did the trick ! I had to remove the jet a blast it with some of that carburetor dope ! Lmao it musta have been clogged up .

Do you think this would help if my engine only surges when hot? (Normally about 30 minutes of mowing or so).

I've replaced the carb, replaced the coils, replaced the fuel pump, removed the heads to clean them up and reseal in case it was a head gasket leak.

I'm at my wits end on this one.

What is the little black plastic piece on the right side? I broke it off mine and now it’s surging, don’t know if it’s related.

Hi, thanks for this video. I just got my husqvarna mower last year with the fr691v. After sitting a bit over winter it wouldn’t start. Pulled carb to clean and now it surges and only runs with choke on. Does cleaning the carb not clean out the air this screw adjusts?

If you chose not to adjust/open the screw as you indicated, Will cleaning the carburetor resolve the problem?
