I wholeheartedly agree! I always encourage young people to not bother with college, they'd be much further ahead to learn a trade. We need more machinists!

Unless you are going to be a doctor, lawyer or engineer. College is a waste of time

As a 21 year old college student who works full time as a literacy coach to help pay for her online degree in English and Literary Studies with a concentration in British literature, I agree.

I love my online school because it’s just me learning and then I learn more valuable things at working such as time management, good work ethic, organizational skills, public speaking skills, communication, personal accountability.

The problem to me isn’t that college is worthless although many frivolous degrees that make no sense with colleges forcing you take Gen Ed’s that have no bearing on what you actually want to study

The problem is many high school graduates go to college because they don’t know what else to do. We as a society and guidance counselors ask our high school students “where do you want to go to college” instead of “what do you want to do for the rest of your life” which then implies if you don’t go to college you fail. Trade school costs a fraction of college and there are plenty of blue collar jobs that make a lot of money. You can also join the military.

I agree that too many jobs require degrees and value degrees over good work ethic and work experience. I want to become a non woke literature professor. I think college should be for 1) people who actually want to learn as too many times before I left university to go online I saw people uncaring of their learning experience 2) people who have researched jobs and know their competition and want a degree for a job that really requires it 3) have a plan and backup plans. So many college students change their majors many times and don’t really have set goals on what they want to do. While at this age totally experiment and figure out life but college should be for those who know what they want to do and have the drive to pursue it. Every time you change your major you waste money.

In end you should not only acknowledge that having a degree doesn’t mean you’re more intelligent than someone who doesn’t have one and feel entitled to a job. And college is a financial decision. Not many students make choices to be cost effective. I chose community because it was cheaper and I could commute versus living on campus. Paid it all out of pocket from money I saved working in high school and working whilst going to school. Transfer to a university that is commutable and a state school that offers discount to in state students. Online school as well is cheaper than in person university. Work hard to get scholarship to lower costs.

College is for some people but "everyone" does not belong in college just like some people would never make a good trades person. We are all different.

My greatest suggestion would be to go to a local community college, get the credits, get some grains of knowledge beforehand, and so you won't have to spend almost 100k to go to a potentially crappy college for nothing.

I got into a " discussion " on one of these sites with a high brow who was telling me he was so much smarter than because he had a degree . I told him anything he paid big bucks to learn I could learn from my cheap smart phone . He says oh yeah, then proceed to text me a physics question which I looked up, got an answer but with symbols I could not produce on my phone .
When I let him know this he smugly sent me something in Latin. I didn't bother to have it translated, I just looked up how to say " I don't argue with idiots " in Latin. For some reason, he ended our conversation .

Five takes from this short video...
A: Good on that young lady for posing a question and letting the individual give their whole answer.
B: I'm curious is the soft- tubby boy in the suit is taking his own advice and is in one of "the trades." I would place my bet on he's never done a single day of actual trade work. And no, gardening with Grandma doesn't count. 😂
C: The man who's joining the military and "gonna learn everything real fast in boot camp that'll propel him through life..." (Paraphrasing), that dude's about ta learn something but it ain't likely gonna be what he thought.
D: The older gentleman has a good head on his shoulders but nobody's learning how to be a mechanical engineer from their electronic device.
E: The last lady seems to the most on point. She wins in my opinion.

I make six figures. I have 210 college credits. No degree. You don't need a degree kids. You just need to be good at what you do.

The relevance of a degree is vanishing. Soon you'll need a degree to sweep the streets.

It’s worth going to college for certain jobs but it’s not worth the money. What we need to happen is a lot of people to avoid college, by a lot I mean generations; forsake college and those jobs. College would be forced to lower their prices and in a position of weakness we would be able to get them to throw away filler classes that you don’t want or need to take.
This would also cause those jobs to strain and fall apart under lack of employees forcing them to throw away their unrealistic standards and offer higher pay!

I want to go into the AF, but the biggest issue is I need a college degree to get in as a pilot. I guess if I took the right thing it’s understandable but I don’t see myself needing public speaking to be able to fly a jet lol

Unless you are perusing a career in the STEM fields college is 100% a waste of time I felt my IQ drop the entire time I was in college with the exception of the actual medical knowledge and training ….. everything else was attempted but failed indoctrination and money grabs
