0:00 - Some of you REALLY like the TS100
0:47 - The TS100 is thinner than the Pinecil
1:13 - The TS100 can go up to 24v. The Pinecil only 21v.
2:09 - Pinecil can be powered from USB-C PD
3:02 - They use the same (odd-sized) barrel plug
3:29 - The TS100 can easily be upgraded to the same firmware as the Pinecil
4:52 - Pinecil has RISC-IV processor. Who cares?
5:29 - Both have comparable heating performance
7:51 - Pinecil is MUCH less expensive.

Pinecil V2 is now also 12-24V 18-88W, with the same low price. V2 now also works with PD and QC adapters. SO the main drawbacks are fixed.

I found that power supplies from older laptops or imaxb6 chargers have the exact same barrel plug as the ts100. I'm currently using a 18V one on my bench and it works like a charm.

I use my field charger in power supply mode to reduce 6s voltage to 20v. A small toolkit RC is perfect for that.

Have em both, love em both. BUT, I do prefer the TS100. Couldn't pass up the Pinecil for the price though, for a backup or for my pack. I keep them both on the bench with different tips so I don't have to constantly change them out. Great update video JB! Thank you!

The Pinecil V2 is specified for 24V maximum but I heard somewhere the actual maximum is closer to 28V, so it can take a 6S input.
I think the USB input is going to be a massive advantage for a lot of people as USB-PD power banks get more common.
No shade on TS100 though. They walked so the clones could run.

Great comparison! I’ve been powering my Pinecil using a 5s Milwaukee battery using the barrel plug, and it’s been working flawlessly.

Alternative Sequire SI012
Takes the same tips as TS100 but also the T12 tips (more choices)
Input 12-25v barrel plug + USB-C powered.

Personally my TS100 screen got way dim after som uses where it was just laying around on my desk in-between uses.

I have to use the TS100 for some heavy duty machine field repairs (ripped signal cables most of the time that need a fast fix before the OEM replacement cable comes in).
I can simply hook it to the 24V machine power terminals. But almost all of them have that one dealbraker at some time - They are not capable of heating
cables with certain thermal mass. Signal cables no problem, but für power cables from 2.5 mm^2 upwards i am forced to use a propane torch and an iron,
especially when it is a bit windy and cold outside.

I have the TS100 and I use only a 3 cell battery. It heats up to 550F very fast and I can solder with any size solder no problem. I do like the price of the clone you have. It's nice to have choices which is why also have a few other small portable (rechargeable) options to choose from. Anyway, nice video look forward to your next episode. Ty

Forgot to add another informative vid. And thank you again for making my fpv hobbies understandable. You don't get how much you do for the community, I would have ended up killing my wife burning my house and killing my self in a car accident this hobbies is so hard but Joshua, the pope of fpv saved me, he gave me patience, he said son watch the vid! You will learn something today and I did! And on the second day I was told son you might learn something today and again I did. Thank you our farther who out thou in fpv heaven for your help when God himself couldn't! Love you stuff bro

In your heat-up test, you talk about how the power dies off as it gets closer to the target-temperature. That's because the tip-temperature is actually controlled by a PID-loop, same as 3D printers or a quadcopter like what we fly, so it's intentionally lowering the power to avoid over-shooting. Or at least, I remember that being a selling-point of basically all of the more fancy irons...
Also, if I remember correctly, the TS-100 on official firmware has a max-temperature of 400C, and the power-boost mode that Ralim uses can push it to max (I think it also disables the PID loop), which is probably around 450C. But I haven't looked into it since the week I got my TS-100. :)

Awesome! Thanks for always giving fair and unbiased comparisons like this. Great work again JB!

If you need a XT60 to USB-C conversion device, check out the ToolkitRC SC100 wire. In order to connect it to the flight pack you will still need a XT60 male to male adapter, but when you have a soldering iron, you can make it up yourself)

Also, having say a ToolkitRC M7 charger you can potentially power up the iron from the Power Output on the charger through the SC100 cable.

And there are some other options which you can come up with, so there is a field for experiments.

P.S. Pinecil V2 for the win!

For price, why not the Sequre Mini SQ-001? It's a TS100 basically that RDQ sells with a barrel to XT60 cable and small solder iron/sponge stand for $44? That seems like the most economical choice at least for people in the US to get a TS100.

Going to buy the SEQURE SQ-001 soon, it's like 38 euro. Bought their spot welder aswell, the quality is pretty good and the prices are pretty low compared to other brands.
Was wondering why you didn't mention that one, but I guess you didn't know about it's existence.

I got my ts100 3 years ago and have built many quads with it and its still goin strong. Got mine for 30 bucks on sale from banggood

you can use a XT60 to DC5525 Barrell wich will allow you to support 24V on the Pinecil v2 per their specifications

I use my TS100 and SEQURE SQ-D60B as portables, with my 65W baseus BS-30KP365 powerbank and works like a charm!

I'm running my TS100 off of a power tool 18V (basically a 5S) battery. I built myself an adapter with a XT60 plug, to slide on the battery (the base part is from AliExpress). But to be honest, I use it very rarely, because I do almost all solder jobs with a couple of T12 soldering stations from China.
