When a soldering iron has more power than a 90s PC. We live in interesting times.

Actually, you should always store your tips WITH solder on them. Clean the tip before soldering a joint but when you're done using the iron, make sure you tin the tip with a nice glob of solder and then turn it off. This greatly prolongs the life of your tips by preventing corrosion. Unless something is wrong with the composition of the tips, they should last quite a long time even with frequent use. Preventing corrosion is key to tip life.

when he started talking about the processor, was I the only one that thought he would say the processor is the heat source for soldering?

Engagement challenge! Having an app store for a soldering iron is hilarious, yet so terrifying at the same time. I mean, the people at Pine64 are doing a lot of cool stuff and even this one is pretty cool, but I fear for the future we are heading towards.

I've been looking for a soldering iron and this looks like it ticks off the right boxes. Really glad you shared this!

Thank you. I now have my first RISC-V provered device in my hands.

Although I didn't get the breakout board. I, in fact, intend to use it for soldering. Yeah. You heard right! This thing can be used to solder things! What a hack!

Absolutely love this device!!! I'm a maker hobbyist and not a everyday bench tech. My soldering skills arent expert...for sure. I bought one of these and what I considered a chore....soldering...is almost fun now. Plug it into a 12v 5a PS (60w) and I'm at nearly 400° is about 20 seconds! My soldering skills have improved as well. The small footprint is just so much more easy to use and handle.
Love it so much I just bought another for my Nephew. He's in his first year at university for Electrical Engineering. He's learning to solder and Im afra I'm spoiling him with this lol.

I saw this soldering iron on Twitter for months but I couldn't find where to buy it, so at the I bought a TS100 and I now I've found the store page for it!!!! probably I'm going to buy it anyway for the RiscV Cpu ;)

Of course, microcontrollers are mandatory for soldering iron that has temperature management feature, so you could solder some sensitive electronic components without destroying them. Some workshops require temperature-controlled soldering irons for good reason, and it's where the reliability counts the most. I bought TS-100 for exactly this reason, and there's bonus too, you could solder the wires together without melting the insulator off with it set at 280 °C, the typical soldering temperature.

I absolutely loved the entire raving ranting review of the rad team red products

You could do some weird shit with this, like use it as a weird security dongle for a PC where you can only log in if it's connected and set to a particular temperature.

Finally some pinecils you don’t have to sharpen.

I've got a kit I carry around in my backpack with various gadgets (serial adapters, cables, rfid tools, etc). I think I'm going to add this thing to it.
Needing a soldering iron away from home is a rarity, but it's happened to me more than a few times!

That is surprisingly cheap, I was imagining it would be pretty expensive. Might pick one of these up if it goes back in stock!

I love that RISCV is showing up in more embedded applications open source devs can play with. We just heard about the ESP32C making use of it two weeks ago and now this. The momentum is definitely starting to build up. I just hope it doesn’t become the next MIPS, but with its open architecture and heavy adoption by massive companies already I don’t think it will

FINALLY got around to using mine and could thank level1 more for the recommendation!
