The drive is intimidatiing. The road hole bunker too. I had the best 6 of my life there. Terrible drive hit the hotel wall and rebounded 20yards short of the 16th green. Three more shots I was on the tarmac of the road! Bumped it up but atill 20 feet away, then holed that putt! I've only ever had one 4 there. Actually there are very subtle borrows on the 17th green and a lot of quite short putts are missed.

This is GREAT golf video to watch. Give us drones, player comments, famous holes and courses, and more of this. Fabulous.

I hit a nice fade wound up in the middle of the fairway then of course afraid of the road so I yanked it left were your left with a difficult flop or bump and run to get near the hole, think I took a double.

Strange hole but it not only forces good shot making but also tests a golfer’s resolve. You have to measure out “strokes I might take” vs. “how much do I dare bite off.” In that sense, I call it a superior design even IF it doesn’t seem to be designed whatsoever.

I played it left aimed for the bunker like it was a goalkeeper with a 2 iron. Shot out was a good flop. I only had 3 feet for par. But butterflies bit me and I lagged it

The tee for the 17th is now located on the driving range.

I have a feeling bombers r going to take on the narrow fairway this year.

I would just play it conservatively and hit my second shot short of the green and play for par.

Everybody talks about the bunker and the road by the green but what stands out to me is the TINY fairway, which is in such contrast to most of the other holes at the Old Course.
Making an accurate approach to that tricky green is one thing, but you have so little chance of having a clean lie to do it with in the first place!

the hardest shot is the second shot for me trying to avoid the road hole bunker and hitting a small green I made a 5 after a decent drive.

Lots of negative comments about the 17th, but it's a nod to course design from another era & has resisted change.
St Andrews Old Course measures 6, 700 yards, nearly 800 yards shorter than Augusta National or Southern Hills.
The average player can still get around St.Andrews.
There are no island greens & no 650 yard par 5's.

Tony Jacklin, lovely guy, but kept telling me I didn’t listen to him when putting out in Maui. He was right.

Good video. Trouble is the rest of the course is to easy with today's equipment. Other courses have overtaken St Andrews. Shame but things move on.

Best hole in the world on the best course in the world.

No other course comes anywhere near it.

I'm talking golf by the way, not picturesque nonsense.

Played the course in '19. The Caddy says 'go over the 'O''. I take a bigger bite to the right. Caddy says 'on no, not good mate'. Walk up and my ball is in the middle of the fairway 160 yards out. Caddy says 'you must've hit the roof of the pub. His tip just got smaller.
