Underneath the crystal clear waters and beautiful coral reefs of the Bahamas swim one of the world’s most dangerous fish: the lionfish. In this video, Bahamian spearfisherman Alex Mullings hunts for the venomous and delicious lionfish, an invasive species that’s all over the Bahamas. Not only is this flaky white fish easy to cook, but eating more of it can also help protect and restore the oceans and coral reefs.

Just say that lionfish is an aphrodisiac and they'll disappear in short order

I love how chef was so nonchalant about getting stung compared to the rugged spear fishermen.

"We are really good at wiping things out" hits hard

Deep-fried lionfish reminds me of how Ghanaians cook fish. The salad with the mango was exquisite. Now Munchies needs a Jamaican lionfish episode and you can team up with Spearfishing Jamaica, SOAI, Drizzy Burke and Ras Mokko to make festive summer episodes. And these teams cook fish in the outdoors in a variety of ways.

I ate lionfish & it's actually one of the best fish I've eaten. I highly recommend folks to consume it so we can preserve the ecosystem in the Atlantic.

Lionfish: No. You're not supposed to eat me. I'm venomous and dangerous.
Humans: Haha... Spear goes swoosh. Now you're food.

I'm all for over-fishing lionfish.... damn, that looks tasty! Cut 'em into nuggets, coat in some flour+cornstarch, deep fry, pull out of the oil, then toss them in some Cajun/Creole seasoning. Already thinking of a lionfish pot pie, and even lionfish meatballs for a pasta with a wine+butter+caper based sauce. Oh Lionfish Cioppino with garlic bread....

Make it an expensive delicacy like they did “Chilean sea bass” will wipe them out in no time.

If Gorton's and Long John Silver's start offering Lionfish, that'll wipe that fish out quick.

It's about time it's getting more exposure. Lionfish are delicious and we'd be doing many coastlines a favor by adding them to our diets.

I'm from a small country called Dominica, (not the Dominican republic). We had an infestation years ago, and our people decided to hold a contest, using these fish, let's just say it hard to find this fish in our waters now.

Side note: lion fish is delicious, but we remove the spines before cooking

They also encourage Jamaicans to eat it, I've never had it but the way I see them prepare it is that they cut all the spines and fins off before cooking

This is actually kinda awesome, normally people never fish in the reef because they want to preserve the habitat. With lionfish to protect the reef the best way to do it is having divers fishing exclusively in the coolest part of the sea.

I remember pet stores used to sell these fish. They were expensive and you had to raise them in salt water tanks.

I had the chance to spearfish lionfish in Belize and it’s no joke. The fishermen are incredible and lionfish is delicious! I love lionfish ceviche

We have the same problem in Bermuda with the lion fish, they have a lion fish catching competition and cook them after. Best fish I've ever had honestly!😍😍
